Hi i was looking for some help with my nissan almera automatic, 1.8 se 2004, it has just passed its MOT and has been serviced by main nissan dealer, last service at 46,000 it now has 51k on the clock. I was driving y'day on a dual carriageway and when i tried to put my foot down i felt a lack of power and the car was very sluggish, upon my return i noticed that the car felt overheated although the heatometer was normal, it also smelt like somethign was burning, i am at a loss now as it appears that the car in the lower gears takes along time to engage gears, this is not a regular occurence, this is irregular, i was thinking maybe i have cluth burning or maybe the air mass flow meter, but there is no sign of an engine management light, is it possible that i could just be the gearbox oil, i have checked all other fluids....please help before i get ripped off and spend more than the car is worth.... might be a sticking brake caliper, does the burning smell come from the wheels ?
I’m planning to replace my car and naturally my choice would have been a BMW 320Ed or 520Ed. However, due to the bad Scottish winter last year I’m considering going for a 4x4 such as BMW X5 (3.0d SE), Volvo XC90 (2.4 D5), Honda CRV (2.2 i-DTDi ES) or Lexus RX400h. Key deciding factors for me are:... Read more
Sounds a great car. If your name is BP Shell Exxon Valdez.
Road fatalities have turned into one of the biggest 'killers' in modern society. One of the biggest reasons for road mishaps is 'speed'. So, the simplest solution is to slow down speed. The speed associated limitations are imposed on drivers for safety concerns. So, it is their duty to pay attention to speed signs and even restrict the speed to ten k/h under what sign says.
1. The basic rule is to 'slow down' to take corner successfully. Weather condition is another area that you need to give special attention.
2. Alcohol is another major reason for road mishaps. It is human nature to believe that they know what they are doing, particularly when they are drinking.
3. A simple rule to keep in mind for driving safely is common civility. If one allows others to go ahead, one can save various probable troubles on the road from happening. Read more
This was never a very useful thread in the first place: the OP is a serial poster on other forums who has done no more than state the obvious. I'm going to lock it, but leave it visible so that people can see that valued members like KB, Vitesse 6 and ** (aka Focal Point) are at the end of their tether.
So indeed am I, having had to delete offensive posts almost every day recently. But this is down largely to one person (certainly not you, Unthrottled) who brings down thread after thread to the level of opinionated ranting or personal insults, or both. Others sometimes join in but only when provoked....
My wife was sitting in a queue of traffic when bang! a Fiesta hit her hard in the tailgate having been hit itself hard in the boot. The Fiesta stayed in one piece but was a bit of a mess with the front end stoven in and fluids leaking all over and the tail of it smashed up too.. Our Volvo estate's tailgate is cracked and the bumper dislodged but its all cosmetic. The off side rear seat will not fold forward now so I suspect the chassis may have moved. The insurance lot have been really quick getting the car in so thats good. Read more
My father, a police officer, once attended a traffic accident in which someone had been rear-ended whilst waiting at traffic lights. They found the chap who'd been hit unconscious, with blood streaming down his face, which belied the state of the car, as it only had a few dents and scuffs. This was not commensurate with the injuries of the driver, and when they revived him, he wouldn't give them any information. They were wondering whether to try and book him as well for not assisting them, or breathalyse him. Under this threat, he finally revealed that he'd been picking his nose as he waited for the lights. Being hit had caused his finger to jab his nasal cavity with sufficient force to make him bleed and render him unconscious.
Let this be a lesson!
Now look here you chaps. My pen is poised, I say poised, just above the dotted line on a car. Respected dealer chain, shiny floor, I like them and have used them before.
Car is £9000 and I'm going to finance about £6000. If I use the dealer's finance, I know he makes money on that, fair enough, so what room have I got to bring the sticker price down? Tiny bit? Or loads?... Read more

Thanks for the advice - tomorrow morning's job!

Fuel pump has been changed now which has solved the lumpiness. Sender unit is faulty though so no petrol gauge. Since this has been done though my car feels slower, almost like it's ever so slightly reluctant to go full whack through all the gears.
The spped is steady enugh I suppose but the revs don't feel as free as perhaps they could. Any ideas?
