3 Simple Driving Safety Tips - Huon.cloutier

Road fatalities have turned into one of the biggest 'killers' in modern society. One of the biggest reasons for road mishaps is 'speed'. So, the simplest solution is to slow down speed. The speed associated limitations are imposed on drivers for safety concerns. So, it is their duty to pay attention to speed signs and even restrict the speed to ten k/h under what sign says.

1. The basic rule is to 'slow down' to take corner successfully. Weather condition is another area that you need to give special attention.

2. Alcohol is another major reason for road mishaps. It is human nature to believe that they know what they are doing, particularly when they are drinking.

3. A simple rule to keep in mind for driving safely is common civility. If one allows others to go ahead, one can save various probable troubles on the road from happening.

They seem to have got hold of a better "auto-translating" programme. I can almost understand some of this

This is uncanny. I'd been wondering why my driving was so poor - alway seem to be getting into scrapes & whatnot...

Anyway, after reading Huon's guide above, I've decided to s-l-o-o-o-w down on those ol' corners & stop my heavy drinking (always used to like to have some single malt handy for long drives..like you do..)

Swearing & cursing was another of my problems - if anybody tried to overtake, or got in my way at all , I'd let rip like a drunken sailor on shore leave & giive 'em a thump if I could! - Heck, you know, thinking about now, it might have been related to all that heavy drinking - thanks again Huon!

So lets all go nowhere, at 0mph and everything will be fixed!!!

No?

I know its only a pathetic bot but the thing is this could easily be a press release from Brake LOL

I did wonder the other day why i ended up crashing when i took the roundabout at 78mph, thank you for pointing this out.

And by the by, speed never killed anybody. Crashing on the other hand...

3 Simple Driving Safety Tips - unthrottled

They were talking about this case on the radio just now.

There was some sanctimonious old cow from Brake droning away in that holier than thou prim voice. Why do these people bother getting out of bed? The world is clearly far troo dangerous for them. I had to switch off at that point.

Ive said before Brake are just a bunch of idiots. Any speed over 0mph is too fast for them because 'it poses risk' well getting out of bed poses risk, cooking dinner poses risk, walking to the shop poses risk. Being offended and shocked is an obligatory part of being a part of Brake.

3 Simple Driving Safety Tips - Bobbin Threadbare

Don't step in any puddles either. You can drown in an inch of water you know.

I had actually never heard of 'Brake'. My life was better before I read this!!!

3 Simple Driving Safety Tips - jamie745

Brake are a bunch of unelected busybodies who feel the right to tell us what to do, they never used to be a problem until the Government started listening to them. They believe all speed of all sorts is bad, nobody should drive a car, we should all go on buses (which have never run anybody over of course). They're people with no jobs, no lives and nothing important to do meaning they have time to go on the radio and spout rubbish and do 'campaigns' to slow us all down to 4mph for the safety of children (why children would be in the road im not sure, but hey ho).

Its not just their rhetoric but its the fact they have no scientific expertise to back themselves up. Like their '20s plenty' campaign, urging people to do 20 in a 30 limit, the DSA said categorically if you drive like that on your driving test you will fail it. Their 'the faster you go the more people you kill' idea doesnt wash when statistics show more people die in 20mph urban speed limit areas, our fastest roads are our safest. Theres no science or maths in what they say and thats why i dispise them.

This used to be a good forum, sadly it has developed a bunch of self opinionated posters who promote their own opinions regardless of any evidence or intellectual worth.

I'm out of here

"...it has developed a bunch of self opinionated posters who promote their own opinions regardless of any evidence or intellectual worth."

You've got a point, but you're wrong if you're suggesting that's what all, or even most, posters are like on here. However, there are a few who have begun to dominate posts and who seem to be more interested in the sound of their own voices than anything else. Sorry, guys - it's boring.

You know who you are.

It's a pity if some people are leaving, but I have every sympathy.

I’m afraid I find it to be have been that way for a while. I haven't posted on here for ages. And I've been registered for something like nine years and remember it being a thriving, varied, lively and informative place to be. I suspect it's a case of having too much time on his hands. I look in to see if he's got bored and gone to annoy someone else but he’s always there and I find it unbearable to stay and watch. Shame, but things do change and it's not the end of the world. Maybe there's a prize for the highest number of the longest but most self opiniated ,and ultimately worthless, posts that are so long and repetetive that the majority can’t be bothered to read.

I genuinely feel sorry for those who give up time to act as moderators and did say so in another place quite recently and hope this is taken in good faith, I don’t mean to jibe at the place for no reason. It must be a nightmare.

I’ll look in some other time to see if he’s gone.

@KB

It's a bit unfair to opine on opinionated posts-especially of that is the only contribution!

A motoring forum will inevitably consist mainly of opinion. Why not start a new thread of your choice requesting that certain members do not participate. I'll happily oblige.

Who's opinion are we supposed to have? Someone elses? Self opinionated really is the strangest insult or criticism.

Like the one you just wrote? Prime example of such a thing. Again, self opinionated? Makes no sense.

I take it the last three posts will be deleted due to adding nothing to any discussion, if you hate the place that much why take time out to explain at length why you dont like it and running down members, why dont you just go? Why not just...stop logging on? If you hate it that much.

Strange people.

3 Simple Driving Safety Tips - Bobbin Threadbare

Ugh....please don't argue!

I believe that you join a forum with the intention of participating and talking to like-minded people about a common interest. I have honestly learnt some interesting and useful things on here and I also enjoy the banter, for the most part.

Jamie - unfortuntely they mean you. Your posts are often too long and it's hard to plough through them - maybe you could sort of put your thoughts down in chunks and try not to swear!

It can be annoying when 'posters' drag up an ancient thread, make one post and then vanish, and there are bots, but overall this is friendly.

3 Simple Driving Safety Tips - jamie745

Too long? Who's to say whats too long?

They dont like them because i have an opinion and dont just follow the crowd like these sheep.

This forum is totally overrun by jamie745, it may as well be his forum. You can be certain of a curt reply if you don't agree with his idea of driving fast is safe, etc. Unless he tones down his replies you will not be getting as many people to use this forum which also equates to less income from adverts.

3 Simple Driving Safety Tips - Armstrong Sid

Bit of an ironic twist here.... former contributors who no longer visit (and I suspect there are quite a few) are maybe not going to see that they were not alone in their opinions after all

3 Simple Driving Safety Tips - unthrottled

I suspect some of the ire is directed towards me as well-perhaps not unreasonably. But there are people who drop in to criticise threads and posters but don't contribute anything constructive either!

There's no law that says every posts must be read in its entirety.

3 Simple Driving Safety Tips - jamie745

People like Collos and ExpatsFL only post when they want to insult other members and have never made even one post, one paragraph or one sentence which has been useful.

3 Simple Driving Safety Tips - unthrottled

Jamie-stop being so insufferably childish.

Like that?

3 Simple Driving Safety Tips - jamie745

Yes, that sort of thing. But at least you contribute useless rubbish about direct injection which i dont read to the discussion also.

3 Simple Driving Safety Tips - unthrottled

Thanks!

The forum belongs to those that use it most. If fourplay is so good, why do raiding parties keep visiting to try to entice us over?!

P.S. I'm half tempted to take up the invitation and start lots of contentious threads...

This was never a very useful thread in the first place: the OP is a serial poster on other forums who has done no more than state the obvious. I'm going to lock it, but leave it visible so that people can see that valued members like KB, Vitesse 6 and ** (aka Focal Point) are at the end of their tether.

So indeed am I, having had to delete offensive posts almost every day recently. But this is down largely to one person (certainly not you, Unthrottled) who brings down thread after thread to the level of opinionated ranting or personal insults, or both. Others sometimes join in but only when provoked.

I could disable his account: but there are people on here who would quite reasonably feel that that was an infringement of free speech which is what a forum like this is all about. What I, and I'm sure my co-moderators also, can do is - reluctantly, but for the sake of the general good of the forum - be more ruthless in pruning or deleting the opinionated, over-long ranting and the abuse.
