Hi, I could use some help and advise. I recently paid to have a replacement engine installed in my Grand Voyager. The next day I drove approx 30miles. As I was parking I suddenly lost power steering and steam started coming out of the bonnet. When I opened it up there was a burst water pipe which was spewing out very hot water and coolant. Also the belt was hanging off.
I am not mechanically minded but was told that this type of engine does not have a timing belt. Instead this belt is used to run things like power steering, water pump, air conditioning, alternator etc.... Read more
I was on the M25 on Thursday afternoon when a real cloudburst occurred just as I approached the M$ junction clockwise.
This is at the best of times, a tricky place as it becomes something like 6 lanes.Inevitably, despite several miles of signs, people try to cross 3 or 4 lanes in a hurry when they realise the M4 is where they need to go.... Read more
They warn of queing where there is none...
Hi, Wonder if someone could shed a bit more light on how these things operate.
I read several articles on the function of the MAF and IAT sensors, and am pretty sure I understand the concepts behind them.... Read more

The vehicle is fine running around town and in standing traffic with the van on the back or not. its not losing any coolent and i've had it on tick over on the drive and have witnessed the fan dropping in and and out.. but i understand they have a 2 speed fan , is there anyway of checking that the speed 2 is working correctly??... I have been experiencing this same problem with my 406 of late. It used to be fine. I have changed the 3 relays at the front, the pressure cap and the coolant to no avail. Have you found a cure . I do not go with the idea that it is not a problem, and just change gears to sort it like someone suggested. Haynes is of no use, as the colour coding is different, and the fuses it mentions do not exist. "Frustrated.
Hi, I have a renault scenic 1.4 16v (Engine code K4J)
Had a coil fail causing a missfire so replaced all 4 coils with beru ones and also a set of new spark plugs from renault. This fixed the missfire.
I have had the timing belt done, new water pump, new coolant, oil and filters all replaced in the last 3 months.
Car was running like new.
However now after leaving the car stood overnight or for more than 6-7 hours so the engine is cold, it seems to hesitate after you pull away most noticably in second gear between 2000-3000rpm this only last for a few minutes and once things get warm the car runs fine.
It only does this when cold.
Can anyone help me it driving me mad
regards

Strange thing happened this morning when driving to work, hesitant as I pulled away as normal once warmed up car ran fine. Switched on the air con and it hesitated once but that was all. Anyone have any ideas as to why turning the air con on would cause this?

I have read a number of strings on the issue of PPCs trying to scam money from the public. Your write up was the most informative and stressed that the identification of the driver was the crucial issue. I have received a letter from Debt Recovery Plus Ltd acting for UKPC which refers to the Norwich Pharmacol Protocol. This appears to me a power to the County Court to require me to identify the driver. I assumed that in a court hearing I would be required to do so anyway. Has this Protocol materially canged the advise you previously gave? Many thanks. Read more
At last, a perfect gentleman motorist. You are right, Mr Right, we should all stop trying to get free parking. I take it you did stop in for a couple of pints to repay the kindness of the publican for providing free parking??? Thought not. Glass houses and stone throwing methinks!!! Concrete.
A friend is moving back to UK from his current home here in France. He has a 6-month old Hyundai ix35, bought in France, which is going to UK.
Can he change the headlamp dipping direction to suit UK or does he need new headlights? Read more
I have just replaced the head gasket on a 2.0L 1997 petrol Mondeo and have noticed that some of the hydraulic tappetts can be compressed by hand and that others can't. Do the tappets need replacing? Read more
hi when you take head off or dont start engine for long periods of time oil drains from some tappets and not others usually the 1s that can be depressed are empty they will usually fill up with oil when engine is started although this can take sometime therefore engine will sound tappety until they fill and quieten down
hope this helps...
The "ABS Fault" message comes up on my 406 HDI whenever I go round a long, sweeping left hand bend (eg joining the M11 from the M25. If I stop and turn off the ignition then re-start, the fault returns but clears itself after I drive about 50 yards. The fault doesn't come up when I turn left at a junction or roundabout.
As the fault clears it looks as if the sensors etc are OK and the ABS works fine (I tried it on a wet road). Any ideas? Read more
Quite likely. Well done anyway.

Moved to Technical. There's another thread started recently about this same model: one to sell I'd say, also bearing in mind its poor NCAP rating.
