Having just fitted them to my bathroom, I'm impressed.

They seem to be available for cars, but I know nothing about this. I'd think that if they use less electricity, they ask less from the battery, so the alternator works less, so you get more mpg and save money.... Read more

In theory yes, but the gains aren't big. The payback time would be quite long!

Can anyone help us please. My son needs a new front brake hose on his 02 Matiz 800cc. The hose currently fitted has a round banjo at the caliper end, but all the hoses we can find have a square banjo. Are they interchangeable? I dont want to start the job and find that the new hose won't fit. Any advice will be very gratefully received. Read more

Not that old ruse! I've got some oil from the finest snakes that aligns the molecules in the piston rings which reduces friction and reduces consumption by 19%!

Thanks for the reply madf

It only happens when turning right full lock and going about 2 mph. occasionally it will clunk when turning left but not very often. You get one, maybe two clunks, not like a cv joint when it goes click click click. Every now and then the clunk will be on the drivers side, i dont know if it is the sound being carried across the car, whether there is something wrong on the right aswell, or im just listening to hard now and i hearing every knock the car makes. Pushing on the front wings of the car the front end goes down and then back up, there is no bounce and no noise when doing this. When the car is jacked up there is no play in the wheels they are solid.

My daughter is resident in Spain. She recently spent 2 weeks in the UK with her family and I rented a car for her for this period. She and I were insured to drive but she was the only actual driver.

I have just received a "Notice of Intended Prosecution" for a 30 mph speeding offence which occurred whilst my daughter was driving and asking for the name and adress of the driver.... Read more

There is an obligation at law to disclose what information you have as to who the driver was. Failure to do so and your in deep lumber even if, as you say, you were not the driver but do not name daughter..

You will have to enter her details on the section 172 form and return it. Consider also sending with it a letter of explanation that she is a resident of Spain that was on holiday and dual Insurance taken out re hire of car....

Hi, I am looking for a good reference book for maintenance on a 1998 Lancer. Haynes don't do one. In particular I want to look after the engine and am wondering if the engine is similar to the 1996 model or even to a Mitsubishi Colt so I could get the Haynes for one of those cars. Any tips or advice greatly appreciated. Thanks, Marcus Read more

I recently brought a new Ibiza Copa - I have had several problems with it letting water in through the driver & passanger doors (drops of water) I returned it to the garage & they carried out repair works to the drivers door (replaced seal) and adjusted the passanger window. When it rained next it was apparent the problem was still there. I took it back to the garage with no fuss and they had a look at it. They came back and said that the seals were all ok and fully operational - however there was water coming into the car - They put this down to a "Design Fault" originally but then said it was a "Design Characteristic". I do not want to settle for a car that has a water feature as a "Desing Characteristic"

I have got the car on a PCP finance agreement and have so far paid around £1400.... Read more

Seems fair as you don't really want a water feature but a car.

You have given them a chance to fix and they can't, suppose you could go for the PCP company as well as guess you didn't fork out over £30k for the car it would be covered under Consumer credit act. Reckon if you go speak to the dealer and dump keys in his paws and threat litagition then you will get their attention eventually. Good luck

I have owned my '02 Focus ST for just 10 days and I am having gear linkage problems - I have been told that I will need new gearchange cables. This was not pointed out to me when i purchased the car. The Warranty sold with the car specifically excludes any external gear linkages.

My question is whether I can go back to the dealer and claim that the car they sold me was not of 'Satisfactory Quality'?... Read more

If you phone up the Citizens Advice Beauraux they will point you to the right bits of the Sale of goods act, but if you have had a majour mechanical fault within 10 days then they have to put it right, as the assumption will be made that the fault was present at the time of sale.

Keep notes of times you contacted your garage, who you spoke to and what they said.

I would suggest you approach the seller armed with the AA report, can't guarantee it will do any good but might be worth a try. Or they may be willing tio do the job just for the price of the cables.

If its the same as the ordinary focus there is one here for £50.00 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-focus-C-Max-gearchange-cable-assembly-bnib-/120760861691?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1c1de883fb
