While inspecting the offside brake disc I noticed it is pitted on one side when jacked up the car thee was resistance as if the caliper is seized. The pitting is only on the inside of the disc. Not the wheel side. Could this be the slide that is seized or is it more likely to be the piston? Thanks Read more

Hi,

When my lights are off I can get mainbeam(?) to 'flash' another driver BUT no mainbeam when lights are on. Why? would it be something to do with the headlmp bulb?-fuses seem ok... Read more

Yep its an MoT failure.

Sounds like its a bad connection between the Headlamp switch and the bulb. The flasher uses a different switch. But these wires must be joined on their journey to the bulb....

After replacing the front discs and pads, a few days later the battery was completely discharged. After recharging and reconnecting the battery I noticed that a motor was running. I traced this to the ABS pump motor, this was confirmed by removing the 40amp fuse protecting that circuit,

Any ideas what has caused the ABS pump to continue running even when the key is not in the ignition, has it anything to do with the replacing the front discs and pads?

I got the fault codes checked at the weekend. The only fault showing is a bad earth on the ABS motor.

But the gargage I took it to didn't have the equipment to check for a bad earth....

Can anyone advise me if the bolts etc on the Nissan are Imperial or Metric size? I have a decent scoket set kit but doesn't seem to grip the nuts properly? Read more

Peter.N.

If you can get to the end of them i.e they are not on a pipe, use the nearest but slightly smaller sized imperial spanner/socket and hammer it on, providing the thread has not rusted solid that will undo it. For pipes where you obviously cant fit anything over the nut, a small pair of stillsons or similar should work. Failing that, weld a larger nut over the top of the existing one, on a pipe cut a slot in the side so you can slip it over.

On reassembly give the threads a coat of waxoil, they will then come undone next time.

hi there i have a 1998 306 with a 1.4 petrol engine, guess i will go with the long story then it is easy to determine what is wrong with the car. i had it stood in the garden for about a year then decided to send it for an MOt it fired up first time and off to the garage it went they changed some suspension parts and a washer motor for MOT then i took it home and this is where the problems started.

everytime i went to start the car it struggled to start and when it did start would stall straight away until it was warm however everytime i approached a junction it would stall. i called the RAC out and they couldnt find the problem but suggested i change the relay behind the ECU, which i did but the problem still persisted, i took it to the garage to be plugged into the machine and they said there were no faults and it was probably because it had been stood and needed to be run in again....
