I have a Nissan Almera Tino 136 bhp 2.2 dci engined car, and was wondering about the tuning chips you see advertised for diesel cars, promising increased bhp, torque AND economy.

Supposedly my car would become 170bhp, 25% increased torque and better mpg. For £300 it would pay for itself over time if the economy claim is true, and not a fantasy land fib like some adverts are....... Read more

Yep I was aware of that. Thanks.

Hello. I have a Peugeot 307 2.0 16V engine with 100 kW. I have the same symptoms as everyone here. The engine runs 30 seconds and then calmly shakes and runs on 3 cylinders. After warming up the engine now everything is calm again. I changed the plugs, ignition rail, water temperature sensor, all injectors and it happens constantly. I still think every day what is a cold engine. Diagnosis always displays an error cylinders numbered 1.

Solved anyone? Does anyone know what causes it?

Hi, I'm a full time sales executive for a main dealer, but do part time sole trading in my spare time to boost earnings. I trade around 20 cars a year. It gets annoying having to tax the vehicles to use them, when I could simply have trade plates, but looking at the application form I'm wondering whether to apply or not. I already have trade car insurance, which suits me ideally.

What kind of checks do DVLA carry out?? They mention inspecting business premises etc. Would they check my finances/accounts/records etc?? I just work from home and advertise on the internet.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated! :) Read more

Is there really any difference in diesel from supermarkets or Shell etc.

Some posters think so, or does it all come from the same refineries? Read more

Seeing as a large proportion of Diesel fuel is imported as there is not he refining capacity in the UK the quality goood or bad would depend on the refinery were it was refined I suppose.

Does anyone know which engine oil to use for my golf - need to top it up. It's next service is not due for @ 6 months. Also have any other golf users (petrol version) had white smoke emitting from the exhaust, even when the engine is warmed up? Read more

Must be very disconcerting, could be that the software info is not showing exactly whats happening in normal driving conditions.

Not tried the prius I presume the auto is pretty good! Having driven manual cars for @ 20 years, will not go back, autos are ok if there working correctly and are a lot easier on my left foot. May also try a deisel next time, the new vw golf s/be out in 2012.

Hi, i was wondering if anyone knew the approximate cost of replacing the gearbox, on a semi automatic yaris, it's an '05 and has mileage in the twenties, and the whole gearbox has gone on it. Does anyone know also why this might have happened to a car with such low mileage too? Any advice etc... would be really appreciated, as we're in dire straits at the moment! Read more

Couldn't agree more with Madf's views on these boxes.

I'll add my tuppence...if Toyota's best efforts don't last or even provide a competent drive, what hope those makes not known for their customer care, longevity or pleasant easy drive....

bought a vw golf 1.9 sdi only a few days ago and driving round the doors it pulls like a train, however, take it over 50mph and it just does not want to know and speed drops to about 40mph even with foot to the floor, ive read a lot of the posts on here but dont seem to be able to find any problems relating to the sdi,,being an sdi i have no turbo so no problems there and i have just found out today that it has no MAF meter neither which is what most are sayin the solution is to TDI s...having just bought the car i dont know its history but will be giving it a full service on monday to see if that helps, just wondered if anyone has any other ideas incase the service does not help?? cos although i cant be certain it looks like the fuel filter has not long been changed and the air filter isnt that bad but for what they cost im going to change anyway, think someone has had ago at fixing with the new filters and passed it on to me,unfortunately for me i didnt test drive on motorway, but then why would you lol. Hi,

As far as I remember the 1.9 sdi has a mechanical diesel pump/distributer/injection - no electronics except for the on/off/immobiliser solenoid.

Following on from an earlier thread about decent diesel estate cars, I seem to be homing in on either of the following:

Skoda Octavia mk1 1.9 TDi 130bhp, but with the Common rail injection, HOWEVER, before the piezo injectors were introduced (thanks to FBE659)... Read more

I had a 2008 1.9 without a DPF

They were available with or without dpf at the time. I guess one of the three letter codes on the big label under the boot floor will tell you if it has or not.

Did resealing the hinges work? Mine is doing the same and my local ford body shop said they would need to take all the roof lining out of the car take off the hatch and reseal the whole back of the car...they said they have done over 50 to 100 of these and they can fix it!

And now for the catch they will need the car for over a week as its a big job and the last one thet did cost around £700... pretty poor for a car that's just over two years old...
