I have a Ford Galaxy, 2000 V reg, 2.3 zetec.

I recently had a breakdown recovery van take my car to its garages due to a problem with the Compressor. This was replaced and the air con was re-charged. Since then I have heard a hissing (similar to an aerosol) sound from the passenger footwell. After several attempts the garage had a look at it today and I was told that the Air con unit had, probably, a split bung that was drawing in air. This, I was told, had nothing to do with the recent work as it was on the other side of the car. This issue was not there before the air con was re-charged. I have been told it 'one of those things' and that the solution would be to take the dashboard out and replacing the air con unit. I'm not convinced....... Read more

Hi

There are def no air vents in the roof behind the front seats. This must be linked to the work they carried out?

Can anyone please help. I have a tapping noise when my headlights are on full beam but not when the side lights are on. It is intermitant but very annoying. The noise is coming from behind the dash on the drivers side.

Thank you. Read more

I'd be surprised if both motors have failed. Are you sure that both headlight beams are not adjusting - it is only the headlamp internals that move and not the headlamp itself. I would agree that the cheapest option is to disconnect and adjust manually, especially if two motors are required.

Happy New Year to all,

Just before Christmas I had my Mazda 6 (38-42mpg for 6 months prior to conversion) converted to LPG by a local dealer who has converted 4 previous cars for me without problems.... Read more

You should expect a 15-25% drop in economy when running on LPG due to the lower calorific value compared with petrol and the sub-optimal injection process. That said, it does sound like the LPG injectors have not been fitted correctly - a common problem.

I am the MD of a company and decided to put some of the company's profits into a Skoda last year. It's probably the biggest commercial mistake we made last year.

Our customers refer to 'Skoda Days' when I'm not working (they used to be 'golf days' - the sport not the car). It's not a status thing, we'll never buy Skoda again because the product and the backup are simply not good enough.

Hi All, this would be on a model at least 3 or 4 years old.

The HJ review says that the A6 is not a genuine 5 seater due the middle rear seat being poor. Most of the time that would not be an issue but five or six times a year I transport three twenty plus daughters plus wife on trips of a couple of hundred miles to uni, grandparent visits etc.... john96 - the standard specification can be a little different between Germany and the UK. Many years ago the standard equipment was higher in the UK so those ordering in Europe had to be very careful that the specification was equivalent. I'm not sure if that is still the case, particularly now the situation has changed.

Hi all,

got a problem all of a sudden, were the gearstick won't move out of the 'Park' position. I have to raise the gear gaiter & push the yellow tab down in order to put it in 'Drive'. ( Got this tip out of the car's handbook, or I'd still be in Asda's car park!)... Read more

Silly question - but I can´t for the life of me figure out where on earth the rear windscreen wiper switch is. Doesn´t seem to be on the main wiper stalk. I live in Portugal - so handbook is Portuguese. Hence the quesiton here.

Apologies for wasting everyone´s time (and bandwidth) in this forum with the original question. I read the manual more carefully (with the help of a native spaker) and lo! and behold, everything works. Its just that the rear wiper was set on the long interval sweep. I was being impatient by contsantly flicking the rear wiper stalk back and forth too quickly - hence it would just re-set to time zero with every flick.

The reverse light also works perfectly fine - although its not as bright as those on other models and makes.

You really do need to delve into the manual as several functions need to be enabled, or set before they can be accessed.

The car is only 14 months old - and had been used for almost a year as a company car (with 18K kilometers on the clock) when it was returned to the VW dealer). I hope to be using it for a LONG long time into the future.

Now, if I only I could get rid of my 1997 Peugeot 306....which most likely will never get driven again.

Couple of months ago, took my Y reg Vauxhall Vectra 1.6 in for a dose of preventative maintenance. It's done less than 60,000 miles, but has not had full servicing lavished on it in the five years I've owned it. I have changed oil and filters annually, but only by myself, an enthusiastic unskilled amateur.

So with ten years and sixty thousand miles looming, I thought it was time to replace the timing belt to avoid the horror stories of cylinder head/valve damage due to belt breakage. Took the car to a small independent garage which is handy for where I work. Couple of months of trouble free running were interrupted last week by a rattling from the engine area. Phoned to book it in for diagnosis, but car would not start to get it to the garage. It had broken down right next to another garage however, so I asked them to have a look. They could tell the timing belt was recent, but could also see how much slack was in the belt, and advised me to contact the garage who had changed the belt to put right the work they had done.... Have now found my mechanic for life. Every car I ever own will pass through this guys hallowed garage doors.

Fixed the damaged valve (replaced the whole set apparently), replaced water pump, cam belt, oil/filter change, coolant change and car now runs as well as it ever has with no sign of problems. All this at no cost as a massive gesture of goodwill....

ok, heres my problem...i bought an automatic 05 nissan pathfinder in oct of 2009 from a dealership. They gave me 6 months warranty on the engine and gearbox. almost as soon as i got it, i was noticing some irregularities with the transmission. gear-changes were occasionally rough, and when stopping at traffic light for example, it would cut out, or when accelerating again would be extremely sluggish. to resolve this i would usually have to switch the engine off and restart it... which worked everytime.

i was prompt in taking it back to the dealer and explaining what the problem was. he explained he wasnt sure but would sort it. within the 6 months of the warranty...i went back 3 times with the problem and on the last time he said he would change the gear-oil and hoped that would sort it....IT DIDNT. so in Dec 2010 the gearbox seem to fail...there was no drive to the engine...i had it toed to the dealership where i bought it. He checked it out and said after looking at it that he 'wasnt an expert' on automatic gearboxes and it would have to be sent to a specialist. I got a call from the automatic transmission mechanic a few days later to say that the radiator has leaked and spilt into the gearbox...'major job'... Read more
