I`m told that the new 1.2 TSI is heavy on oil. Can anyone tell me how heavy is heavy? Read more
Hey,
I know some of you guys have the roadhawk fitted, I recently purchsed one but am not really that happy with the quality of the video it gives.... Read more
Right --- I think this will work. It's taken me an hour to find a way to upload these two RoadHawk videos - one during the day and one at night...
Hi all,
I've recently bought a 2007 Focus Zetec 1.6 and I'm very impressed. It's a 2007 model and yet it has only done 22k miles. After reviewing the service history in greater detail it seems at it's last service (21k) it was recommended that the cambelt should be changed.... Read more
Victorbox is right its 90k miles or 10 years...But you've got to ask why the garage suggested it be changed. Either they were trying to rip the previous owner off or they noticed that the cambelt was worn/damaged for some reason. Its worth checking to see if this is the case.
After a bit of research I am planning on buying a Golf TSI. Inititally I thought I would get the 1.2 TSI 105 BHP. Toke one for a drive and I thought it was grand.
Did a bit of a search on the web and I got conflicting views on the 1.2.
I wouldn't mind going for the 1.4 TSI 122 BHP but its an extra €2,730 (in Ireland).
I was just wondering does anyone have feedback on the performance of a 1.2 versus a 1.4? I do very low mileage with very small motorway useage. Would I be better off with a 1.2? Read more
The only answer is to get a test drive in each and make your mind up on the basis of which suits your needs better. I haven't tried them myself but have read the road tests, and I would expect the 1.2 to be slightly nippier in town and the 1.4 to have more reserves of oomph at motorway speeds.
If your mileage is low and you live in Ireland where there are fewer motorways, you could well find that the 1.2 will fulfil your needs.
2001 astra 8v automatic, z16se engine.
The radiator fan failed to cut in while in traffic recently, and despite turning the engine off to try keep it cool it burst a hose.
Once cooled down the hose was fixed and coolant replaced. The car then drove home without problem for about 60 miles.
The next day, all was well except the eml was lit for a while but then went out.
The day following, the eml was constantly lit and the car hard to start. Once started it ran ok but was stuck in 3rd gear (automatic gearbox).
Fault codes present:
u2103 (engine control module malfunction)
u2106 (engine control module to transmission control module malfunction)
p0700 (transmission control malfunction)
p1700 (transmission control module service request)
There was also a p1540 fault logged (aircon pressure sensor) which is probably the reason for the fan not cutting in but a seperate issue.
Seeing that the ecu is bolted to the engine (bad design!) is this likely to have been damaged? I was replaced about 3 years ago although not sure of the reason. All sensor connections etc have been checked .

The cooling fan system needs to be in working order not only for engine coolant but also for the a/con condensor cooling. An engine overheat situation need not bring on the eml light. The P codes are powertrain dtcs (engine & gearbox). The U codes are network codes relating to transfer of info between engine and gearbox ecus.A faulty a/c pressure switch fault will not affect cooling fan operation. This could be a low gas pressure issue. In fact if you disconnect the a/c pressure switch ,the cooling fan(s) will run constantly in default mode.I would clear the fault codes, get the cooling fans fixed and retest the system.Could be an ecu fault, and as you have suggested, not uncommon.hth
Hi there. .The short version is that I have received several letters from a private parking company the last one from a solicitor informing me of notice of impending legal action.I contacted the company asking why they were still sending me letters when I had sent them a letter of explanation concerning the fine. They deny having received the letter. I expressed annoyance and commented on their incompetence. They asked me to send a copy of my appeal letter and I said something along the lines of if this matter is subesequently not ended after they receive my letter, I will be contacting my solicitor. Having read the threads on private fines,I realise I shouldn't have contacted them but can you advise what course of action I should now take. I appreciate any advice given. Read more
You need to file a defence within 14 days of the issue of the writ - or better still fill out the section to get an extension to 28 days. Details of how to do this are in the court pack.
If she then scans and sends me the detail of the claims (to asklucy@honestjohn.co.uk) I will write defences free of charge.
Hi, while driving normally the other day I got a sudden loss of power and lots of black smoke. I managed to get it home and took apart whole induction system but found nothing wrong except a couple of worn rubber sleeves which I replaced, along with a couple of jubilee clips which were not really up to standard. I reassembled the whole thing but the problem is exactly as it was.
Now, below are a few things I need to get straight:... Read more
* Induction pipe obstruction - impossible since I have just took apart everything on that side
* MAF sensor - even in neutral with no load there is lots of black smoke from like 2000 rpm onwards so I don't think it's that...

I am unsure if one is allowed to bad-mouth a local Citroen approved service centre on this forum but if so, I would love to give others the opportunity to avoid them. I have a lengthy story I could tell and am happy to name names. But please advise if this is this the forum to do so.
Many thanks Read more
You can of course post the details without naming.
How can I find the code for this/.?
You will need to pull the radio out of the dash and read off the serial number.Usually starts with the letter M.hth

I suggest a visit to an owners club for VAG cars - VWs or Briskoda - to ask this question as you'll be asking more owners.
