Hi there, central locking button/sensors on drivers side front and rear have stopped working. Megane MK2 '05 plate,

(This has the IR sensor behind the handle that senses your hand before you operate the handle).... Read more

Have seen this loads of times in the past but is a bit more hit and miss to fix when you havent got diagnostic gear. If one of the optical sensors fail it usually knocks out the whole side. At the dealership you can see from either the fault code logged or by checking the read out from what the sensors are seeing. So i would say that the front is usually the most used and change that one first. Or book with a dealer for a plug in.

Loving this car , more than i really expected for a first car tbh

only one thing is spoiling it , it seems there is some issue with the stereo , without the engine on but with the key turned to first position the stereo works perfectly (I got a new head unit as the car did not have one) all speakers and power to head unit are fine like this and can listen to music , as soon as i turn the engine on , the power cuts slightly , but comes back , the head unit is still lit, but no sound from speakers........ Have tried it with disconnecting the remote cable , did nothing different, its a complete mystery . i'd be happier if it just outright did not work.

I know there are stretched versions of many cars, used to transport hordes of screaming women on hen nights

I've seen stretched Hummers, Chryslers, Mercs and other unidentifiable creations.... Read more

I saw an X5 stretch some months ago and it was ugly. The problem is that a limo used to mean a vehicle with (usually) three rows of seats, be it a Rolls, Mercedes, VDP or similar. They were used for formal occasions, weddings, funerals, etc. Now they they have become those OTT Lincolns and Hummers full of hen parties and the like. Sadly OTT and over here!

Recently i went to a salvage yard for a replacement Light/indicator stalk because the lights had failed on the car. I was sold another switch but when i fitted it the lights worked but when turning on the wipers i heard a crackling noise from the dash, the wipers wouldn't stop going up and down. Then they just stopped on the windscreen and now wont work at all. Have i just blown a fuse or something major ! Read more

davidpdavies

Hi, thanks for you help, i didnt realise that there was another fuse box hidden behind a money tray under the steering wheel. had been checking the fuses in the engine bay. now i have found that there was a blown 2oamp fuse and replaced it. just gotta find the right part number now. car breakers in worcester ( RKR Malmoco) are a waste of space and they wanted to charge me to get their electrician to find the fault, when it was their mistake to begin with.

From a legal standpoint these cases are a bit of a minefield. For example if the case is overseas even if you are with one of the "UK motoring organisations" they will hide behind their T&Cs and tell you that you need to sue their agent under another jurisdiction.

If they operate their own service in the UK you may have more luck. But if it is an insured scheme (and nothing necessarily wrong with those) again you probably need to sue the contractor....
