vw caravelle - squealing ca - doghead

im thinking of buying a vw caravelle to convert to a campervan, the van seems good price £4500 2002 2.5 td 124000 miles , tatty inside but thats not a problem.

my concern is that the cambelt squeals

i can do straight forward mechanical work and i know a friendly/cheap mechanic

should i be worried about this problem

I seem to remember reading once that the waterpump is also driven by the cambelt on these. and it was recomended to change the pump with the belt, as pump failure will take the belt with it. Reason for concern if this is the case.

Can anyone confirm this?

Are you sure it is the cambelt not the auxilliary belt?
