Hi there,
I have a Mk 3 golf, from 1997, and I'm struggling to get the doors open every morning.
I'm currently living in the mountains in Spain in a ski resort - and it's been pretty cold.
There's no central locking now, and I don't know if that makes things worse, and I don't drive the car every day.
What is potentially more worrying is that I'm now having difficulty opening some of the car doors from inside.
The lever doesn't seem to engage.
Are there any tips to make this a little easier? Any lubrication I can put on the door seals?
Thanks

For the last couple of days, our 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee won't start. Struggles to unlock and switch off immobiliser and when turning the ignition, faint dash lights come on, it won't turn over and then dead - as iff I have a flat battery. Jumps starts with no problems from our other car.
Have had the RAC out and they checked the battery and said it was 100%, was taking a charge fine. They also said that when the car was not running and locked, there was still a small charge being drawn - about 1.3 amps I think.... Read more

I would reccomend you go to mothercare, where they will test fit any of the seats they sell in your car. The staff are very knowledgable, and can get you the best fitting seat for your car. What works in one car will not always be suitable in another due to seat design, seat belt buckle position( important to avoid buckle crunch- where the position of the buckle is such that it takes all the load rather than the belt).

Mechanically they are identical, however that's not to say there won't be differences with ignition related mechanical parts crank/trigger wheels etc.
Hi,
I fitted a new cambelt to my car today as it has done 99000 miles and at the same time replaced the shims on the cam followers to correct the valve clearances in an effort to cure a tappety sound... Read more
Valve timing isn't really critical give or take a couple of degrees-you can play around with it if you fancy moving the torque curve around! But there should be a camshaft sensor for one of the cams and that does need to be timed correctly-could it have been displaced/contaminated while you were changing the belt? You can't really gauge the tappety noise until the engine reaches operating temperature, because that's what clearances are set for. Hunting idles? MAP sensor? Did you disconnect it for any reason when the timing belt came off? Easy to miss in these crowded engine bays!
Anyone know the schedule for replacement of cambelt for the car?
There are two schedules - the one in the service book supplied by the vehicle manufacturer and another one which is unique to the UK.
The second is an instruction from the importers in Milton Keynes and is readily accepted by the dealers as a means of generating extra revenue. It involves changing a perfectly good belt after only 4 years of operation.
Take your pick - I used the information provided in the service book for my 1.9 PD.
659.
Hi,
Any pointers would be good. Sorry for the long windedness.... Read more
With consumption like that you should either see large plumes of black (or white?) smoke behind you all the way on your journey, or trickles of fuel spouting from under the car when it's at idle.
If the car sounds and drives as normal then probably the latter. Seen an motorbike accidents in your rear view mirror recently?
Hi, i have a T reg Renault Scenic Alize currently at the garage with a stuck rear door, windscreen washer passenger side not working and a brake pipe leak from the front driver's side. Have been quoted approx £70-£80 to get it fixed before the mot. Is that a good price??
Cheers... Read more
I have always understood that it was illegal to park your car with one or more wheels on the pavement or within 10 meters or opposite a junction. However, during a recent conversation with a PCSO I was told that this was no longer the case, is this true?
If the law has change I feel this is very sad as, unlike many motoring laws, these rules seem very sensible as they are designed to protect pedestrians from traffic and enable road users to enter and exit junctions safely. Read more
Pavement parking really annoys me, unless it's clearly allowed.
I was trudging up my local high street in the pouring rain and saw a 'blinged up' SUV pull up on zig-zags outside a bank. The driver exited and legged it into the bank. A traffic warden was walking towards me, but this was happening behind them. As we passed, I said 'look behind you'. They did a rapid U-turn.
The front door of my Peugeot is locked (other doors and boot can be opened). Have taken it to the garage but they are unable to remove the door card without cutting through it. A new one will cost £378 and the cost of repairing if problem is as suspected will be £208. Anyone know how to get this off without needing to replace it? Am changing car soon so reluctant to pay this amount. Currently trawling web for breakers to see if I can find one with no joy as yet. Read more

It sounds like you have something electrical that is constantly taking current from the battery. If the RAC report a constant 1.3amps discharge, this will severely deplete a fully charged battery in 24 - 48 hours depending on its condition.
Check to make sure there are no lights permanently on like glove box, vanity mirror, interior lights or boot light....
