Hi all
The Honest John VW Golf Mk4 reviews appears to paint a relatively harrowing picture - and the car receives an extremely poor 2/5 stars.... Read more
I just replaced a tail light bulb in my Golf MK 4 GT TDI. The electric sunroof, interior lights, electric windows and remote locking will now not work all of a sudden.

Anybody got opinions about the Apple Iphone.
The work has told me to get my backside down to Tesco and get myself an Iphone.
I'm looking at the Apple Iphone page on Tesco Direct just now. When I read about new technology I start dosing off.
Iphone - Yes or no? Advice greatly appreciated. Read more
Wouldn't be without mine. I don't use many apps, but having my email and web on the go helps with business. I like the functionality.
I'm trying to narrow down my search for a car to suit my two teenage sons, both over six foot. When my six foot husband is driving (he can sit further forward in the passenger seat), one of the boys has squashed knees in my Peugeot 407SW. Have to change on 12th March as lease up. Badly want the sexy red Mazda 6 but only two more inches in rear compared to the Mondeo which has six more inches. My conscience is pricking! What shall I do? The Mazda ticks all boxes equipment wise (TS2 2.2 163 bhp diesel) but the Mondeo will be a fiddle to get just what I want - hate sport seats so will have to be Zetec with extras and it all adds up. The Skoda Superb would be great but ruled out as there is a six month wait. Help! Read more
Exactly my buying dilemma three years ago. Son is now 6ft 6. Also wanted big carrying capacity and, of course, at the best price. We were prepared to spend K16 tops. After weeks spent looking, fitting son into back/front seat we finally found the car that ticked our boxes. It took a week to get our head round the idea but, at K11 we were also saving on what we had budgeted.
We've had the Berlingo for nearly four years now: no regrets, hasn't put a foot wrong....

When a person decides to make Home and Garden Improvements to their home, there needs to be a specific reason as to why they deem it is necessary for the improvements. If there is not a specific reason, and they are merely puttering around, the frustration of the whole process may result in a unfinished project and undesirable results for your yard or house. I have been "Flashed" by a fixed speed camera at night at the start of a small town in Northamptonshire. The speed limit signs that were about 400 yards back were not lit nor were there and street lighting making the signs difficult to see in the dark and almost invisible when travelling towards the town if another vehicle is coming towards you. I was slowing because I was entering the built up area but obviously I now realise that I had over-run the point at which the 30 limit started. When returning through the town - in the opposite direction I noticed that the 30 limit signs were lit and easy to see so I slowed down then double checked as to why I had missed the 30 limit signs the first time. Do you feel that I have a case for mitigation? Many Thanks
Interesting point there Lucy. If the LA have made a Traffic Order (S 82(2)(a) RTRA 84) taking out the restricted road and imposed another limit (S84(1) RTRA 84)then it has to have signs.
Good point
I wonder if anyone could possibly advise me on a car purchase. With the arrival of a daughter, our Golf TDi is no longer bigger enough to haul our camping gear (and now pushchair etc.) around the country, even with a roofbox. Given our storage needs I'd thought that a (used; <£8k) diesel estate might suit: an Octavia, say, or a Mazda 6, Mondeo or Avensis. When looking up the luggage capacity of these vehicles, however, they seem to carry little more than the respective hatchback, with presumably some disbenefit respecting fuel efficiency. And so my questions: would a hatchback suit our needs; and in either event, which if any of the 4 makes would you recommend over the others? My thanks in advance. Read more

Dear Fellow Members,
I am looking to buy an automatic Honda jazz in a price range of 5000 pounds. Because the CVT is quiet expensive to repair, I would like to buy from an approved honda dealer. When I search I found that my nearby showrooms(in London) quote 6000 and above for a 2004 model, but showrooms in Glasgow and Cumbria quote below 5000! Especially Glasgow showroom quote 4500! I am just wondering what is the catch. I dont mind travelling to Glasgow for buying a car and drive it back to London if I can save more than 1500 pounds? Is there any point I am missing. Read more
"Mechanically the car should be in good condition because otherwise they cannot give an 1 year warrany on the car."
Don't you believe it.
Had a scratch removed from the windscreen but fround that when it rains I can see the repaired area as it seems to be clearer than the rest of the screen, as if the rest of the screen as a fine smear/covering on it. Also the rain seems to stay on the repaired area but dipersies from the original unrepaired areas.
The car is only 12 weeks old, any suggestions to whats caused this and how I can correct it. Read more
now i see what your saying sarah, well all i can think of with regards to the repaired area is because they have rubbed it out with an abrasive compound( i have heard of people using toothpaste for scratches on glass believe it or not) again slightly abrasive but takes a hell of a lot of rubbing apparently, never tried it myself ,some traces of the compound might still be on the screen give the guy a ring who did it and ask him if this is normal and in the meantime try cleaning it like i suggested.

Mk4s are reasonably reliable, but have pretty poor suspension setups by modern standards, a bit like a Mk VI Ford Escort (though not as bad) under damped to the point where they are neither comfortable nor good handlers for a similar reason to the Escort - body rigidity was poor - despite the rather hefty kerb-weight. To reduce squeaks and rattles VW had to soften the damping to reduce "thump" loads to the body. Stodgy to drive and uninpiring, the Focus of the era is much the better car. Indeed most hatches around the time match or better the Golf dynamically. They're not bad cars just an old (chassis) design stretched too far.
