Hi, guys, my Zafira again started briefly mis-firing again today, but I am wondering if anybody can shed any light on this, FUELSYS1 - OL -Fault.
what could cause that and what does it mean?. When I cleared all the info and the misifre fault codes it has been fine.... Read more
I'm having a weird problem, I noticed a burning smell from the drivers side right wheel yesterdat. Smelled like a jammed brake caliper. Applied some WD40 to the caliper to free it up. This morning, came out and the tyre was flat.
I presumed this was co-incidence, so put the spare on this morning. Travelled approx 3 miles earlier, the brake caliper is red hot again, and the spare is now flat. Neither tyre has any sign of damage or a puncture, and the tyres appear to inflate again.... Read more

Moved to Technical, where you should get some more help.
im thinking of buying the above vehicle with the following advertised problems, should i steer clear or are they easy enough to put right,
cam belt squealing... Read more
I'd be quite worried if a toothed belt was squealing...
Almost certainly the auxillary belt-confusingly referred to as the fan belt.
On Saturday I had 2 new Michelin Energy Saver tryes put on the front of my Astra, bought on line from and fitted by a large nationwide well known fast fit centre. On getting home, I noticed the date marks, and one is 5110, (week 51, 2010) the other 2208 (week 22, 2008).
I have complained about this 2 and a half year difference in age, on the basis that, a) I was not told I was buying new old stock, b) They are bound to deteriorate at different rates and are not a pair. Tyre company said they were fine, had a shelf life of 5 years, and would not change it / them.... Read more
I got 40,000 from the last ones, and I hope I do from these, but who knows what will happen in the future? Might be ill and not be able to drive much, and tyres will have to last. I hope they have been stored correctly, but I don't know. Frankly I'm staggered that a company this size does not have a Kwiker turnover than to have a 21/2 year old tyre knocking around. Astra tyres are not an odd size are they! Thanks for your thoughts though.
The boot lid will not stay closed and the locking button on the key fob has no effect, I suspect the lock actuator needs to be replaced, is this a straight forward DIY job ? Read more
Thanks for the reply injection doc, could you briefly describe the replacement procedure.
You might think that a dealer who vehicle checks a car as clear of finance on buying it from a private seller would be protected if a finance company subsequently comes to call. You would be wrong.
I am advising on a case through my Motor Trade website "Dealer Club" at the moment which looks like it might leave a small dealer the victim of fraud at a cost to him of around £9000. This is more than the cost of the car he bought. And if he does not capitulate but defends and loses, it could easily go to £15,000+ if legal costs are added in.... Read more
It's a potential fraud case. The person would obviously have knowingly been seeking to defraud the dealer. The problem is that aside what a criminal court might award - usually a trivial amount - his recourse would be against the seller.
They usually broke - or say they are - and have no fixed assets you can attach against.
I had to change the battery on my wifes old Fiesta. I have a keycode in my audio guide that doesn't work. It says S/N M032361, Key code 4634.
Is the code correct for that serial? If it is I suppose I'll have to take the unit out to check the serial number!... Read more
All sorted. Thanks guys
I am advised that wishbones (both), lower ball joints (both) and lower arms (both) need replacing on my 175k V70 (10/2000 new shape). On one of the forums I read that the wishbone unit would include new ball joints so is it correct for the garage to mention them separately, or are they a separate part from the wishbone?
Hi there,
I have a Mk 3 golf, from 1997, and I'm struggling to get the doors open every morning.
I'm currently living in the mountains in Spain in a ski resort - and it's been pretty cold.
There's no central locking now, and I don't know if that makes things worse, and I don't drive the car every day.
What is potentially more worrying is that I'm now having difficulty opening some of the car doors from inside.
The lever doesn't seem to engage.
Are there any tips to make this a little easier? Any lubrication I can put on the door seals?
Thanks

Hello again all.
The issue was indeed a stuck piston on the caliper. I was unable to free it so changed out the caliper completely, plus fitted new discs and pads (as the discs were badly worn, and the pads had overheated and cracked).
This has sorted the issue, I have tried both tyres on the car and they are working perfectly. Air must have been getting heated up and most likely escaping through the tyre rim. I have had them both tyres checked and resealed just to be on the safe side.
All working fine now and back to normal!
