Focus 1.6 Petrol 2000 - Thermostat - JPidge90

Hi there,

This is my first post on this forum so not sure how it really works, Basically I have recently bought a second hand ford focus and it has thermostat issues!

The first time it overheated I took it to a garage who couldn't find the problem! So basically they bodged the thermostat and essentially took it out so now my engine is constantly cold!

Recently I've tried fitting a new thermostat, overheated, replacing the water pump and thermostat, overheated, and now I'm pretty much lost!

Still runs but only without a thermostat fitted.

I was just wondering whether any one has seen or heard of this problem before?

Cheers

The thermostat in the 1.6 zetec is a bit tricky to remove. The garage probably took the easy option! If the new one is correctly installed then the cause of the overheating is almost certainly an air lock somewhere-very common in modern engines. Follow the bleeding procedure religiously and it should clear itself. I have a manual for that car lying around somewhere.
