Following an accident, a garage towed away my car and provided me a quote for a repair. The front left wing of my car was damaged with the bodywork and suspension needing repair. The engine was working fine as I drove the car off the motorway and it did not overheat. The garage told me that they would charge me £1600 for the repair which was detailed (replacement of parts on suspension and body) but I negotiated this down to £1000.
After having said that they would repair it in a few weeks, they informed me about 9 weeks later that the repair had been completed but that there was now a problem with the engine. They said there was a crack in a cylinder and basically that the car needs a new engine.... Read more
I have not before taken much notice of the tyre details as fitted on my 308 SE HDi 6-speed manual diesel 1997cc, and as supplied by my Peugeot main dealer.
The ones fitted are 215/55 R16 93V on 17" wheels. Is this OK ? - as a tyre novice it seems a bit odd to me, and does not tally with what tyre-shopper.co.uk suggests. Read more
When I've looked on tyre websites for the sizes for my car they are often way out.
The 215/55/16 are a popular size, so they will be OK.
They can't be on 17" wheels, if they were they would fall off! The 16 in the tyre size is the diameter of the tyre, it can't fit on a 17" wheel.
Have another look at the tyre sizes and the diameter of the wheels and report back. I'm confused.
Hi,

Had my mid life crisis (well its an excuse :) and bought a 2006 330ci convertible auto - there was a 2005 but the 06 had a few extras (blue tooth, sat-nav/telly) at the same price.as the 05 - car tax hiting the used value of 06s?
I know that by buying the 06 I'll suffer from the £400+ annual tax rather than the £245(?) - BUT does anyone think the Government will hit the "big polluters" by a huge amount over the next few years ? Read more
True. But why run a luxury car and then start fretting about the pennies (ok pounds)? I've just seen a lot of people rush to sell their petrol car and buy a brand new diesel. Of course, they never see anywhere near the claimed mileage (short journeys), but they think they've beaten the system because the tax disk is cheap. But the overall economics is madness.
Ditto politicians!
Should I inflate my tyre pressures when they drop by 10 PSI on a cold day. The manual says to check pressures when cold but they change from a warm day to a much colder one as we have had recently. Tomorrow may be warmer and the tyres will be overinflated.

Are you talking about the difference between -17C we had in places this winter and the +10C we`ve had recently?
Never noticed that much difference in less extreme conditions, road tyres don`t get hot as do race tyres which you wouldn`t be able to touch after being run.I thought difference between a cold tyre and a run tyre was normally only a matter of 2 or 3psi for the average saloon not driven in anger?Has your cat learnt to use a foot-pump....they can be sneaky? ;)...
My friend has a set of neuspeed passat lowering springs. These won't fit on my 3.0 will they?many thanks.. Read more
My thoughts are 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'. The 3.0 version of the Passat might have special VW springs already to cope with the extra weight of the larger engine, so your friend's kit might be unsuitable even if the bits fit physically.
i want to help my cousin georgia in replaceing her acura TL wiper blades. what size is the drivers wiper blade on 2005 acura tl?can i use rulers or tape measure to measure it.? Read more

I have no idea and no explanation. The car was in refit for over four weeks, apparently. Ridiculous. There seems to be no accountability and they can do as they please.
