I've got a Ford Fiesta St, 56 plate, 60k miles.
The gears get extremely stiff when its been running for around 30 minutes. I've had the gearbox oil change, which hasn't helped. Garage is recommending changing the gear cables (?), but aren't sure that this will fix the problem.... Read more
Popped into my local Asda yesterday and saw they are selling their own branded 5 litre packs of engine oil for £10 instead of £16 - I'm tempted to buy some (Either 10/40 or 5/30 Semi Synthetic. Does anyone know who supplies it to them? Read more
I would imagine that the 5W/30 would work a bit better under most circumstances.
From a cold start 5W30 and 5W40 have the same viscosity. At operating temperature 5W30 is thinner than 5W/40....
ok iv read lots of posts but i cant find one entirly similar. this forum looks really good and the pople seem to know what they are talking about.

hi there hope i can help.. without confusing your car problems with other posts.. overheating can be caused by many things, so dont dive straight into faulty pumps or blown gaskets.. does the cooling fan come on?.. is their any engine managment lights on?.. do u have warm air come through your vents once the engine has warmed up and youv switched your blower/demister motor on?
i got a clunking noise coming from front end everytime i go over the slightest bump and when i move steering side to side in drive.but nothing when car is stationary.suspension is fine.i changed strut bearings, steering linkage, ball joints, bushes and wishbones.any advice please? Read more
This forum is all about exploring soloutions to motor vehicle mechanical/technical problems so that other car owners can benefit from that knowledge and apply that to their own cars
I wonder why you have not done so ?
Hi, hoping someone can help.
Car drives lovely, no overheating issues with this one, fantastic mpg but the revs fall at 2800 in most gears, a very noticeable lag when accelerating, can't overtake on hills, can only overtake on the motorway when there is enough time to "pick up" speed.
I read various reviews on here so i bought a new air mass meter for the car,
In the first 5 minutes of fitting it, the car pulled really well accelerating beyond the 2800 revs for each gear, was still pulling in 6th gear.
Next day the car still felt poorly but better, I have found that if it feels sluggish and i pull over-turn off the the car then restart it it seems to work better.
Still poor acceleration feels like the turbo just isn't there when you need it.
I've been told that it is a variable turbo -what ever that is??
Could someone point me in the right direction regarding a cure for this, or tell me what i should expect from an 11 year old TDi ( 80,000 miles).
Top speed is about 80mph
Have just invested in some "Redex" as i thought i'd start small and build up to big changes like a new turbo!!
Thanks for your time.

I have a 2003 Peugeot 206 1.4 HDI (90K on clock) which is not smoking at all, pulls really well (for a 1.4!!) however it has an annoying chatter/knock. This is hardly noticable at tickover, but when accelarating it gets louder, until about 3000 revs then stops (or quietens down again), it also stops when I take my foot off the accelerater. The noise seems to be worse when the engine is hot. Any ideas? Thanks Read more
Hi all, I have a citreon c2 with the same engine, mine has developed similar symptoms to this but it is only at idle?? ie a regular tapping which disapears when the revs climb above idle?? any ideas.
Any feedback gratefully received!

You need a program called "Planet" no other program works properly with Peugeot
Hi guys,
I was hoping for a bit of advice. In March of this year I purchased an April 08 Astra CDTi Sri privately, it had a full VX service history (full maintenance package) with 54k miles on the clock. It had a few weeks left on the warranty and I had it MOT'd during the warranty to replace anything under it if necessary. However there were no problems and it was given a clean bill of health.... Rich,
Having read your thread above I now find myself in almost the same position. Having recently taken my car (exactly the same car/age) for its annual service, i have been told i now need a new gearbox which i will obviously looking at a bill running into thousands! My car is now 1000 miles over the warranty aswell as being 5/6 months over the 3 years....
I have a ford mondeo estate 2.0 Tdci with a 53 plate and I think that it needs a new flywheel . It seem to be cheaper to convert to a fixed one but I am told by my mechanic that you can't get them for engines after 02 . i found a site that appears to sell them but I don't know how to find out what engine I have.
Any help would be appreciated Read more
On the widely used PSA 1.6 diesel,
from memory, Peugeot and Citroen do not install a DMF on the low 75bhp version of the engine, but do on the higher powered versions (90bhp and above)?...
Hi Everyone,
Has anybody had any experiences (good or bad) with MBI Autoguard. I've just bought a fairly recent Mondeo and I am researching aftermarket warranties. They come in significantly cheaper than warranty direct at £289/year or £389 lifetime and seem to promise a lot (with notable exceptions of clutch and I guess DMF with it due to anything other than a nuclear meltdown, plus bodywork, entire exhaust, airbags and a few others) but the only user experiences I can find on the internet relate to a fairly refused claim where a dealer was actually liable. Can anybody shed some light on them...? Read more
My opinion and advice, if a car has an Autoguard warranty, treat it as though it has no warranty at all. The company does everything it can to avoid paying up, A six month top of the range warranty that does not cover just about everything, either mechanically or electrically is like a phone call warranty.... Not worth anything !
Just had the same issue on my son's 55 plate 1.25 Zetec Fiesta. The nylon bush was grabbing a little when cold, but an hour into a journey it became very hard to change gears. Removed the arm, and pivot pin from the fron of the gearbox. Reamed the nylon bushes out to give a slight rocking clearance on the cleaned up pin. Reassembled with moly grease. He reports the gearshift now as "really, really good".
