Took delivery 32 days ago of a second hand car bought from a dealer website. used the car for 4 weeks about 500 miles and the car as suffered terminal transmission failure and the cost of repair is 1500 just less than the cost of the car. dealer no help , says he can will do nothing, sold without his warranty bit was sold with a 3rd party warranty which is for a maximum claim of 250 - you know the ones ! would keep the car if he would settle the repair or even 75% of it as i do not want him to do the repair - trust and faith broken.
Again cannot take car back to him as it is not drivable and not keen to put on lorry back to him for him to refund... like that would happen, guess i would just loose the car and what i paid for it.. i have notified trading standards and my credit card issuer...... Read more
The amber oil level warning light has just come on my 2007 CR-V 2.2 CTDi (the first of the new shape April 2007) I have visited the Castrol website and apparently the oil I should use depends on whether the car is a DPF version or not. Is there anyway of knowing if my car was fitted with a DPF? Any thoughts on which oil I should use to top up greatly appreciated. Read more
Castrol is owned by BP.
Can anyone please, please help me.

The glowplug warning light (which doubles as the engine management system warning light) on my 2001 Clio 1.5dCi has been come on.
I have read,it could be a bent sensor underneath the accelerator pedal?i had a look under there & there is a little box,so I dont see how the sensor could be bent if its in the box?... Read more

For whose benefit is this little missive? My car isn't broken and I know exactly how EGR works thanks.
Has anyone had to replace the back box on a Toyota Aygo? I could do with a ballpark of how much it might cost or even if it's doable yourself....
I bought a hanger removal tool for exhausts and must admit it's the best investment I've made in auto tools in years. Really simplifies the task. That and a thin multi cutting disc on an angle grinder for the pipe/socket joints makes swift work of exhaust replacements.
Biggest regret is throwing an original GM hanger in place of a cheapo bought one. Come to replace back box after 6 years and guess which is perishing? Clue is not those which have been on the car 13 years!
I have a Ford Focus Diesel, TDCi on an "03" plate which has done about 80,000 miles since new.
I drove my Focus at high speed on a long journey and after about 350 miles the Engine Management System (EMS) light began to flash and the engine began to stutter. Without stopping the engine, I tried to drive off the motorway but the engine just died on the hard shoulder. I restarted the engine, the EMS light went out and I was able to drive 35 miles to a Ford dealership with no further problems. ... Read more
No, the diagnostic code just tells you what the problem is ie low fuel rail pressure, not what is causing it. See my post above for possible causes.
Has anybody experienced the engine cutting out on the above vehicle.
There’s no consistent event that would initiate it, but the engine would just cut out. I was crossing a junction the other day, it cut out, would not re-start, although it was turning over; switched off; cycled gears suspecting maybe a mis reading from the gear selector, (being auto it won’t start in gear). Luckily it started.... Read more

Hi i was wondering if anyone could help. I have a 1.6 ford focus zetec, 2004 model. My engine light started flickering and was advised that it was the spark plugs during further investigation the plug was cracked and the mechanic found that the coil pack had gone. I had this replaced twice the first time it didnt work at all and the second time it lasted about an hour. My machanic advised that the make of part was cheap and this was common with that make of part. I have recently put a new one on a different make and the car has been running fine. The engine warning light has come on again but this time its perm on but the car runs perfectly fine (no juddering like before) i am not sure what is causing the light to stay on. If i continue to drive the car will it do serious damage or would i get a week or 2 out of it first till i have the money to fix it.

If it is an overheated cat then no it won't do any harm to anything else. But it is only a guess from the symptoms you've described-it's a tall order to unambiguously diagnose "what does EML mean?" online!
Yeah is as described since the new coil pack has been put on its being running fine then today the light came on....
I have a 2000 X Vauxhall Vectra 2.0 Dti, which I inherited from my Grandfather. It has only done 57,000 miles. It has an intermittent fuel supply problem, which two different garages have put on their diagnostic systems and diagnosed as an oil pump needing replacement, and that as this is integral to other parts of the engine and its management, the cost is £2000 for parts and £500 for labour. They have said the complexity of the system means no exchange parts are available nor second-hand.
Does this sound true? Do you know of any dealer who might repair Vauxhall oil pumps?... Read more
Oops, forgot to say that if it is fuel draining back it's usually due to air entering the fuel system through the fuel leak-off pipes, or occasionally a faulty injector seal. The former are not difficult to change, but the latter is quite a bit more of a job.....
I admit to knowing next to nothing about cars, so buying one is a complete minefield to me.
If I give a brief description I wonder if anyone can point out any glaringly obvious reasons why I shouldn't buy it.... Read more
Agreed it is an "old mans cars" but I won't avoid Rover, MG or any other marque based on the brand simply through badge. A Rover isn't a brand I would look at though admitidly - but it was once british so it deserves an iota of respect ... surely?
