I was driving my mums ford focus st when engine cut out. I was driving normally not racing or anything. Took it to local ford garage with RAC and booked it in for her. Turned out £700 bill for looking at it changing timing belt but still broke. Said will need new engine approx £5k. Being only two half years old they said wasnt covered by warranty as 60145 miles so just over 60k.
She took it to court under fit for purpose as advised by solicitor. i advised garage what was happening by letter and said werent paying £700 when car wasnt fixed until we hear outcome of case. They wrote to me saying unless i paid were going to charge daily storage charges. I again wrote said wasnt my car and informed them again of ongoing court case.... Read more
Asked for it to be released but said 700 to he paid first and solicitor told us not to pay it until court case finalised (solicitor was useless). Said bill was for timing belt and labour yo see what was wrong but still didn't know.
Hi all,HELP can anybody help with my problam, ive recently taken my vectra to be diagnosed because my engine managment light kept coming on so he did the test and it was reading
p0002-fuel metering solonoid valve circuit range/performance(present)... Read more
this had more fault codes than mine but i bet its the egr valve if you havnt already done it.you can clean it out but its the inside solenoid that sticks causing loads of probs. New one about £60. theres a how2 on vectrac.com if you need help on it.
In recent weeks, when braking the brake pedal gave very slightly. I assumed this was the master cylinder, as I had been advised to change it some months back, by an RAC mechanic that checked the fluid and found it in extremely poor condition. Then I bled the fluid right through, but couldn't replace the MC due to difficulties buying one.
I have today replaced the master cylinder, but found when fitting it that the plunger that engages it does so later - about 5mm - as it has slightly differnet dimensions! Which I didn't notice until after fitting it! However now when breaking the pedal "gives" more quickly in sustained braking.. that is: when I press the pedal, once the brakes come on, in order to maintain breaking I have to push the pedal down further and further. It is not driveable.... Read more
The power steering's only linked to the vacuum pump by (probably) being driven by the same belt, although the vacuum pump may be driven otherwise, camshaft perhaps?
Have you checked your auxiliary belts for tension?

''probably because metal has cracked in several places.. and of course the heating/cooling cylce will probably lead to early failure...'''
I thought the condensor was stone damaged, presumably punctured then not cracking up....
The handbarke warning light is on constantley, the indicator relay is not clicking even thought the indicators are working, and they are not displayed on the IP neither is the full beam indicator coming on. Also the Alarm does not come on when I use the fob.
I have disconnected the battery to allow the ECU to reset and the problem stays. Anyone got any advice Read more
It was the cables going into the fusebox under the dashboard that was the problem. Thanks for the info.
Can anyone help me try to help me resolve my problem,i have 53reg 04 diesel passat estate,i have a malfunction warning light coming on in the center of the speedo also another warning information on the computer saying " WORKSHOP EMISSIONS".
I had fitted a new temperature sensor fitted but that as made little differance, any help would be appreciated.... Read more
I have a similar problem I have an 06 Passat diesel estate and the 'Exhaust Emissions' light has been on for about 2 years!! My local garage have interrogated the computer on numerous occasions and it always suggests that the glow plugs have a problem...so they were replaced initially....then the relay to them.... then the glow plugs again...and finally the garage replaced part of the loom as they told me this often went wrong and sent false messages to the computer. That lasted less than 24 hours before the light came on again. The best we have done is to get it to stay off for about 2 months.
The car starts and runs beautifully and I have not the slightest doubt that the glow plugs are fine - for instance, it started easily all last winter in that cold weather and was standing outside. if anyone has a shortcut to the probelm I would be delighted as the cost of getting nowhere is probably £350 + so far!...
Im about to buy a focus 1.8 ghia 2006 .but today ive heard about possible dpf problems.
I have been told by a mechanic at the showroom that a dpf is not fitted on this model and only on 2009 models only, however im not sure who to believe.
Can anyone advise me if a dpf is fitted on a 1.8 ghia? and if so, is it worth me opting out and looking for a petrol model instead?
Cheers Read more
I have had DPF problems on my focus especially when I was doing short journeys, the best way to clear it was to blast it up the motorway obeying the speed limit in 4th to get the revs up with the air con on full blast for about 40 minutes. Wynns additive also helped.
The advice I have had from my brother in law who is a mechanic is not to get a car with a DPF if you are doing lots of short journeys as it needs a good run to build up the engine temperature to burn off the particles that collect in the DPF....
Can any one suggest what I should have to pay to have the Air con regassed? I assume that this is the issue as even when air con is on and at its lowest we still get warm air! The car is a 2008 diesel.
We also have an XC90 and the AC seems fine but wonder if i am having one done should I have both! Has anyone any experience of having it done and any suggestions?... Read more
HI. you said the cars a 2008 model,
can't you take the car back to the volvo dealer, 3 year warrenty, or if its only slightly out of warrenty period you might be able to get a %age of the costs paid as a good will......
Hi all
The mother's 2001 KA sounds terrible. Just had new lower wishbones both side. Now when you get up to about 30-40 mps there is a very loud whirring noise coming from somewhere, plus the power steering has gone. Only thing I can think is the steering rack? Anyone good any better (cheaper) ideas? Read more
Power steering fluid isn;t leaking from anywhere but its gargling. I've tried bleeding the power steering but to no avail so I'm guessing its the power steering pump thats gone. Since there is no power steering, it isn't being pumped around and the pump runs off the belt so this could be making the noise??

One tiny word of warning would be to try not to tilt the instrument cluster too far away from its normal position, apparently this can cause harm to the damping mechanism of the dials. Other than this you should be fine.
