I have got a honda CRV that I've only had for 2 months. It is making a knocking noise when on full lock in low speed. I can feel the knocking vibrating through the floor. Is this a common problem with this model? Read more
Look at HJ's car by car breakdown. You'll see this problem is listed as a common fault easily cured by changing the fluid in the dual pump rear differerential. You must use Honda's own fluid which is now improved compared to the original factory fill.
Morning all,
Hope someone may be able to clear something up for me. I bought a 2006 Focus TDCi 1.6 last year with a full service history - mileage at purchase was 95k is now at 105k. Have had the requisite nightmare with DPF, clearly didn't do enough homework here, and, after the car went into limp mode, I have just been advised by an independent garage that the Eloys fluid is empty and will cost me about £250-00 for a complete refill. They also mentioned that it should have been done as part of the 72k service.
So, I dutifully contact the Ford garage where all servicing has been undertaken and they advise me that the additive was not topped up as this is an 'optional component' of the service. Looking at the service schedule this does not seem to be the case. The garage are insistent and have agreed to provide confirmation in writing. Can anyone confirm whether or not this is the case?
The DPF was not been changed either at 72k, can anyone confirm whether this is something that I will HAVE to have done and, if so, whether I'm better off just getting it back on the road with tis 'top up' and getting shot of it. The guy who has the car at the moment thinks the top up should ensure all is OK until the end of the car's life
Sorry to waffle but any help would be greatly appreciated. Read more
Hi
Anyone thats interested we can remove the DPF and remap the Focus for £450. No more dpf problems....
Evening all,
My dear old saxo`s power steering has an intermitent problem. One minute it works the next is doesnt?
Ive looked on various forums on the net, and have come to the conclusion that its either the relay or the pump itself! But does anyone know where the relay is? Ive looked in the fuse box inside the car and there are a few relays there, but i dont know which one is related to the power steering. Ive looked in the hand book and it lists the fuses but not the relays, so can anyone help?
The car is a 2000 W reg VTR, she`s done 146k miles.

Thanks for your reply,
The fan blower still works when the power steering doesnt, so i dont think the ignition is the issue!?
You say that the relay is located in the engine bay, do you mean by the power steering electric pump?
I know this sounds daft, but what does the relay look like!?
I have had my car insurance cancelled because I did not provide an upto date photo copy of my driving licence. I have the old paper drivers licence and submitted a photocopy copy as per ththe request of the insurance company. it has my old address on it. They sent out automated requests for a new licence and i told them that I was in the procces of apply for a new one with my current address. I recied an answermachone message stating that If I did not call them before 5 that day my insurance would be cancell. No emai, no letter. no moble phone call. I missed the answer machine message, I called them next day and the insurance had already been cancelled and that they couldn't do anythig about it.
My policy was paid upfront and in full by credit card. They did not state that they required paperwork when I paid for the policy over ther phone. The request only came after in the documentation. I have never had an issue like this in 24 years of motoring and my licence is completely clean.... Read more
Thanks, VOB - I haven't understood this thread either and I thought it was just me! Why did you need your licence, Maintenanceman?
I am considering a new Astra 1.6 as a possible new car, but before I shortlist I would like to ask the backroomers if anybody out there owns one. From what I have read, the two main comments out there (on the web...) are that they are sluggish and suffer very poor fuel consumption. My current car is a 1.8 vectra estate, which we find to be OK. Also, does anybody have any experience of the 1.6 VVT (same engine) in the Zafira - it is just that they do appear to be very good value at the moment (or should I say cheap!) Any thoughts would be much appreciated - thank you Read more
Not sure anyone wants the plural of premium! But if you have to have them, premia is definitely classier. ;-)
Hi guys
After having not really used my sunroof through the cold British winter, I tried to use it in the spring of 2011. Although the motor was clearly attempting to open the roof, something seemed to have ceased or similar.
Was taken to MINI dealer in the spring who did a brief diagnostic and, for want of a better description, did a partial lubrication of some of the mechanism. I was told that this would not solve the problem but may help a little. It did not. I was also told that I should have used the sunroof a few times through the (snowy) winter.
I took the car in again today (July 2011) for them to do an extensive diagnostic. The result of this is that the Customer Services girl said I need a new frame and motor. I queried what exactly was wrong and she did not give a satisfactory technical explanation, although I have now read on paperwork that the motor and rook cables had both seized.
I was quoted nearly £2000 to replace both!
This was then reduced to £1200 (70% of parts cost paid by BMW / MINI).
Upon protesting the girl said she'd talk to her manager and phoned back less than two minutes later asking if I'd pay £500.
Does anyone know if they are actually taking me for a ride? Could I expect MINI to pay for the whole lot?
Car is a 2007 model and in good condition, but I feel these parts are not fit for purpose if they seize up after just four years requiring such major replacements. Read more

Does anyone know if it is legitimate to have the same car insured by two different people under two separate policies (e.g. my wife and myself) at the same time?
I've read some comments on forums where people suggest that it is not legal - on the grounds that it would be fraud to claim for the same event (e.g. write off of car) from two insurers. My view is that it is not an issue in respect of having the same car insured twice, but would be fraud to make full claims against both insurers following such an insured event. In fact the insurers specifically cater for the same risk being covered under multiple policies with clauses such as "If at the time a claim is made under this policy any other policy exists that would cover the claim, we will pay only our share of the claim unless it says otherwise in this policy".... Let's assume for a moment that it were legal and put it this way: Say you park the thing up the backside of someone's new Ferrari and you claim on Policy #1. Insurer #1 investigates, finds that vehicle is also covered by Policy #2 and decides that Insurer #2 is liable due to the clause you mention.
Insurer #2 decides that actually Insurer #1 is liable, as they have the same clause in their policy and a long, drawn out legal catfight ensues between the two....
My 05 diesel vectra has developed a whining noise. It increases under acceleration and decreases when you lift off. It only started after the car was not Pulling through fuel over 2000 revs in any gear, I floored it and it seemed to clear it but then the whining noise started. The first problem I think was dirty fuel injectors, have cleaned with redex but whining noise persists!!! Anyone have a clue of what it might be?

I have 2004 Corsa 1.0 Life Twinport (3 cyclinders) and the engine light comes on and sometimes goes off. The car idles very rough and does not have much power and the engine shudders.
When I ran a disgnostics I got the error code for "Cyclinder 2 Misfire" When I took out all of the spark plugs the middle one was covered in oil. I replaced all of the spark plugs, but it still idles rough and I get the same error code after some time. I checked the spark plugs again and the middle one is not the same colour as the other 2.... They usually fail on cylinder 3 first, or cylinder 4 in the case of the 1.2, so yours is different!
Could be egr valve, which you need to take off and clean carefully, to ensure there is no carbon build up on the valve or the stem, so it seals properly when closed. They are very problematical and the best fix is to make or buy a blanking plate....

What is the ride like on the smax with run flats? Is there a noticeable difference ?
