Trying To Focus

I have a 2001 Ford Focus Hatchback. In the last two years it has had no service of any kind, and has covered 20,000 miles. I have added a small drop of oil. Only has 70,000 on the clock. I plan to run it into the ground, so resale value isn't a concern. What essential service should I do in order to keep it reliable?

Nonsense..sorry.

I see cracked, worn cambelts with teeth missing daily ..I also see cam belts that are near new with the manufacturers stamps still on them..a decision on condition can be made....

Quick question. Do some women, certain women, spray their perfume or do they fill their bath up with it and splash about a bit?

I just got my 306 a few months ago and love it.. is adding injector cleaner recommended?... AND... the car has 130,000 miles on it.. should I change the gearbox oil or just leave it... thanks a lot.. Read more

Do you have reason to suggest that the injectors need cleaning? if not, I wouldn't bother.

A gearbox oil change might be beneficial at this mileage though.

Focushing

I bought a Ford Focus Zetec 1.6 (Petrol) [ Registered September 2008] in September 2009 and was pleased with the deal at the time apart from the fact that I didn't like the Hankook Tyres it was fitted with. I was suspicious as to why a 10 month old car did not have the original tyres because Ford always fitted the more well known brands ( Michelin etc.) on previous Ford's I've bought new and 2nd hand. Anyway, although it's irrational I was never happy with the tyres from Day 1. Experience has not improved my opinion as I find them noisy, poor round corners and were absolutely dreadful in the last 2 north -east winters [ It's grim up north :-) ]

The car is due an MOT this year and the front tyres are below 3mm in some places so I've decided to change the whole lot. However, the rear tyres still have a minimum of 5mm overall and, despite what I say above, it seems criminal to let the garage dispose of them or, even worse, charge me to dispose of them then sell them to someone else. I believe tyres will deterioate over time but was wondering whether they are worth keeping as emergency replacements if I got a puncture.?... Read more

What have you got to lose sticking them on ebay. Have a look how much two tyres with 5mm of tread go for on there. Yours will be a popular size, so there will be takers. As for not wanting to post them, why not? Courier firms will not charge very much and you are likely to get a better price.

The recession may be passing you by, however there are plenty of people out there who are having to save money any way they can. If it helps, why not sell the tyres and donate the proceeds to charity.

Hasty

I will try to keep the history brief;

before I get the the grumbling noise I have had 2 new rear shocks fitted in March/11 (father in law and myself fitted - we did this approx 13 months prior ourselves too but the parts I got were crap and 1 leaked all the oil out after 12 months). This time I used Ford parts for the 2nd set. I noticed a knocking noise about a month afterwards and took it into my garage and found the anti-roll bar bushes were worn, so they were replaced at the beginning of Jul 11. ... Read more

Thanks, I replaced the NSR bearing back in Feb (around 104000 miles) and didn't suspect this one. I used the bearing that came off the OSR (Original Ford) and put it on the NSR and hey presto.....it runs nice and quiet now :-)

My handbook advises BOT 130 oil for the manual gearbox. does anyone know what this means please as BOT 130 doesn't seem known even at Volvo dealers? Thank you in advance for any reply. Read more

You never know who's on here Unth.........;-)

But how can you defend this when there are so many other rules we have to obey or the road system would ground to a halt. There are defined boundaries. Step over it and you should be on your own....
