Hi, my mums mx5 has recently developed a problem. First the car cut out on her way home from work, my dad noticed the connect was loose on the item beside the coil pack on the end of the cam against the bulkhead. (grey connector 4 wires).

Everything was fine for 2 week then the same happened again. this time the rac wer called and found nothing wrong but wiggled a few wires on top of the engine then it started but only lasted around half a day until it died again. Today we have had been all over the engine bay looking for problems but can't find any.... Read more

Ive just bought a car for next to nothing that has some faults.
1, Car pulls to the right when accelerating and going through gears but doesnt when cruising at a constant speed. It doesnt even drift when I go over rough terrain.

2, There is a knocking noise coming from the front when the car is moving and is more noticeble when going over bumps. Im assuming suspension. The shocks seem fine to me. Im wondering if this is associated with the car pulling?

3, Whilst driving there is a noticeable noise coming from the engine. Like a du du du du spinning noise. I havent noticed any problems with the actual drive itself. The noise does not occur when the car is idle or when its stationary and in gear.

4, Heater constantly blowing hot air even when dial has been set to cold. Ive read that I may need a new heater valve?

Has anyone got any ideas? The car does seem to drive nicely, Ive noticed no uneven tread on the tyres. Brakes are nice and not spongey. Car pulls off nicely and there doesnt seem to be any gearbox problems. Read more

Very common problem. I had it on my Focus. Got all the links done for £76 in early 2010. Sorry, I meant to come back and post a bit more!

The steering lock on my wifes Fiat Punto is difficult to unlock. She has to struggle with the steering lock and eventually it works. She is worried that she may break the key in the barrel. Does anyone have an idea what could be causing the problem. Is it a known or common issue. Would it be a simple case of replaceing the barrel with a new one? Read more

Just to add - did this to sort my wife's 04 Punto last year. Makes a big difference.

2 weeks ago, I had my Head Gaskett changed, Waterpump, Thermo and Timing Belt changed, not to mention a full service and other wear and tear bits and bobs done.

All I can say is that the initial garage are evidently manned /womanned by incompetents and I recommend never using them again.

My Seat Ibiza Chill 1.4 85PS has had from new, an unusuall noise on tickover, a light knock/rattle. The Seat tech guys at the dealer where I purchased it have listened but say there is nothing untoward. The noise comes from cam belt end of the engine. Could I safely run the engine for a few minutes without the drive belt for the alternator & aircon pump to deduce if noise comes from either of these items.? Read more

As it's so new, take it back to the dealer and get them to check it, If you have been dismantling bits yourself they could accuse you of causing the problem. Surely one of the the points of buying a new car is so you don't have to work under the bonnet?

Has any one had a problem with a faulty clutch in their B class?.

I had a new clutch at 34,000 miles and that has worn out again at under 42,000. neither my wife nor I have had this problem in the past. A previou Astra of hers did 80,000 with no clutch problems and I had a 5 series BMW which had done 120,000 when I parted with it on the original clutch....
