Renault Laguna - Laguna 1.9 DCi power problem - CBR_Bob

Hi guys,

I have a 53 plate Laguna 1.9 dci estate with 90k on the clock.

I have noticed that sometimes I put my foot down and there is no power. I dont think it has done it from standstill (eg, I think if I wanted to, I could always put my foot down and shift through all the gears without it happening). It seems to happen when I am at a constant speed and then try to accelerate - this happened on the motorway. I could be doing 70mph, then go to overatke and there is nothing there.

Last week it was doing it in 2nd gear, where the revs were slowly increasing but there was no increase in speed. I say slowly, ito took about 10 secs to go from 2,000rpm to 3,500rpm.

I usually get around this flat spots by eiether pumping the accelerator, or lifting off for a few seconds and then puting my foot down. When it is working, it seems fine, there is no lack of power as such. It seems to be all or nothing.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

I'm guessing its not the dreaded turbo fault otherwise it wouldnt be intermittent. Could it be the EGR valve?

Seems like it is time to clean the EGR valve.

By my own experiences and those of others it would better to part company both for your sanity and wallet,

If the revs are increasing and the speed isn't your clutch must be slipping.

I have exactly the same problem. Did anyone find out what the problem was.

The EGR valve has recently been cleaned so I'm not thinking its that. I've had diagnostic which came up with nothing and theres no warning lights on the dash. Maybe blocked fuel/air filter?

Thanks

Because so many components are not monitered on this car its a matter of replacing parts till the problem is found ,common faults are a duff turbo to a faulty temp sensor take your pick Renaults especially diesel of thisr era are minefield.

Just an update on this as got a fix sorted.

I had a diagnostic which came up with faulty or intermittent glow plug on plug #1. Changed it and no better. The diagnostc was run again and same fault so changed them all.

At the same time, I took out the EGR valve which was supposed to have just been cleaned by the person I bought the car off. They even went into detail about how much gunk was in it etc etc. and guess what....hadnt been touched. So bad manifold was blocked so effectively it wasnt working !!

Anyway, amidst my fury, got a result because one of these things fixed it and runs really well now.

Diagnostic guy did say that plugs do go on and off as required, not just for starting, so if car is on overrun and then out foot down if plug faulty it may have been that. I have no idea, but hope this helps. Cheers
