Driving along tonight in my Touran 1.9TDI Touran 2005 it appeared to judder in every gear, lose power and on accelating past 2k revs black smoke and a loud whirring sound could be heard. Any thought before I have the local garage look at it? Read more
I hope someone out there can help me. Last week I left my lights on over night, and of course had a flat battery in the morning - RAC fixed it no problem, but the air bag light came on straight after I started up. Today after filling up with fuel, the engine managment light is now showing amber.
This is not the only problem, a couple of months ago whilst driving all the lights on the dash board lit up, all bleeped, the clock reverted back to 0.00, and the trip reading also did this. It only last a second, but it had done this once before about 6 months ago. Do you think there is a problem with the electrics?

A very common problem on these is a bad connection on the main battery cable in the fuse box under the dash on the driver's side. Should be fairly easy to spot and also to fix.....
My current insurers , NIG , have declined to continue covering me , despite being with them since 2002 on the trot and no claims. This is to insure a US pick up that harms nobody and does 1000 miles a year. They are saying that they have ' withdrawn ' from the market in London.

Who is it that likes the Renault Vel Satis?!

I had 7 company Renaults in a row between 1980 and 2001 (a 20TS, two 18GTX estates, a 21 Savanna, an Espace, a Safrane and a Laguna V6) - all petrol, and all very reliable despite doing 30,000 miles a year. .
You didn't by chance work for Alcatel at the time ? They forced UK employees to have French cars only in this period, until a mass rebellion allowed some 'dare I say' German cars onto the fleet list.
Love this car it's been so reliable.

Hi all,
I have a dilema which I am hoping you can help me with. I currently have a Mondeo ST200 converted to LPG but I have had this for a number of years and now want to change cars. I am hoping to have a budget around £4000 (roughly a maximum of £4250) with the funds I will have saved and the ST as a part-ex.... Read more
On the subject of the Jaguar, when people say "yeah but its build on a Ford Mondeo" i ask you this. Whats wrong with that?
I understand you are not a VAG fan and to be honest your comments on inter-badge branding are correct really, however dont forget the hideous common rail pump and injector problems diesel Mondeos/X-types of the £4000 era used to suffer from.
why does my new skoda yeti 1.2 petrol automatic have power failure problems on occasions when pulling away from a standstill ie at junctions, roundabouts etc and is it a common problem on this model.
Many thanks. Read more
I take it you mean the engine stalls?
Short answer, no, I suggest you take a trip to the dealer....
It’s been just over a year i bought an Audi A4
The car suddenly cut the engine, it started again drove it and it cut again, I called RAC they said they could not find any faults in the OBD and they said to drive it home and they would follow us in case it broke down.
Drove it home it cut out twice. I called AA Warranty they said take it to Halfords, so we did. Halford must have taken it on a test drive not realizing it was a timing belt issue and it must have damaged the engine, they told AA it needs a new engine. AA sent an independent person to see the car. (This all took 1 month)
I get a call back saying they can’t accept the claim because we were driving the car in a failing state...
We didn’t know what the problem was when it first cut out nor did RAC they advised us to drive it home, it was driving able just cutting out every 5 or 10 miles. AA warranty told us to take it to Halfords Autocenter, no one advised not to drive it and to recover it there and Halford Autocenter took it to a test drive to a point it needs a new engine.
I think we all know that the Halfords guys too it to a test drive till it destoryed the engine but theres no way of proving it apart from when we had the car we could drive it for 10 miles or more without cutting out. And the RAC person was there to witness that.
What do i do?... Read more
I am suprised that the RAC told you to drive the car with a failed water pump-certainly overheating could cause the module to shut the engine down.

A turbo problem is my first thought, possibly even as simple as a hose fallen off.....
