Are all the Vito diesels common rail or was there ever a Di / TDi versions ?... Read more

Dunno what taking the oil filler cap off will prove other than there is indeed a pool of oil that splash-lubes the camshaft(s) which will be flung about - oil pressure present or not.

Back to the thread, yes, driving straight away is best. Camshaft wear is at its highest at idle - this is why you're most likely to hear a knackered camshaft in a driving school car.

Potential Buyer

I've just been to look at a car at a main franchised dealer - I know that the car was taken in part exchange in April, but the date on the sellers part of the V5 (which the garage has retained) has been altered (with tip-ex) from "04" (April), to "07" (July). The garage does now acknowledge that they've had it in storage for a few weeks, but we were originally given the impression that it had just come in.

Is it legal for a garage to alter the V5 - they admit it has been changed, but can offer no expalnation! Read more

Hi all, in need some advice the timing belt snapped on the astra so i changed that with no hassle. The car fired up fine and drove ok but some times when going round a steep corner or coming to a junction it cuts out.

Its a single point injection unit on a W reg, it wasnt doing this before the belt was put back on but the engine warning light comes on and off but no problems with driving this was doing it before belt... Read more

I'm having problems with my 05 dCi chewing alternator belts like they are going out of fashion, second one in less that a year. The last one was fitted Thursday (21/7) and its already started to shread on the right hand side of the belt, pulled a shreaded peice of belt off yesterday, about an inch's long.... Read more

To strobe a belt you need to paint or mark a white line - preferably in the centre of the belt - for about a metre in length - all round is best... Got to be dead straight.

Got a friend who is not very knowledgable on cars and runs an old astra, but maintains it as required. Not sure though if it would pass the mot due to age/wear related items, but booked discounted mot online , took car in and yes, it failed with £400 to put right. (front exhaust pipe and catalytic converter and 1 tyre

Took car opposite to other national chain, car put right (front exhaust pipe only, cat was ok) for £100, 2 bulbs replaced free of charge as "we don't do bulbs sir" actually got 2 budget tyres fitted and new tyres swapped to front instead of 1 at first centre for less tha £90, total less than £200.... My parents recently had their other car, which theyve owned for four years, MOT'd, last year it got an advisory for corroded brake pipes, this year, same mot station, passed mot with no advisories.

In May 2008 I was rear ended on a busy road. After the car was taken aaway, I was informed a few days later that the car is to be a write off. I thought it may have been because there was some un repairable damage to the main frame of the car.

After some months the other driver's insurance had agreed to pay out to my finance company, the value of the car ( I forget the amount ). We had our comepnsation through and everything was settled. Or so we thought....... Read more

Too many people just seem to accept the first offer the insurance company make. Reject it on whatever grounds you can think of, my experience is if you ask for (say) another £1,000 they'll at least meet you half way with £500.
