Vauxhall Corsa - Help Corsa C 1.0 Misfire? - findmak

I have 2004 Corsa 1.0 Life Twinport (3 cyclinders) and the engine light comes on and sometimes goes off. The car idles very rough and does not have much power and the engine shudders.

When I ran a disgnostics I got the error code for "Cyclinder 2 Misfire" When I took out all of the spark plugs the middle one was covered in oil. I replaced all of the spark plugs, but it still idles rough and I get the same error code after some time. I checked the spark plugs again and the middle one is not the same colour as the other 2.

Any ideas please

Is cylinder 2 sparking?

Run the engine with the plug out of the engine but connected and earthed.

Yes I do get sparks from cyclinder 2. But unsure if it weaker/slower than 1 and 3

They usually fail on cylinder 3 first, or cylinder 4 in the case of the 1.2, so yours is different!

Could be egr valve, which you need to take off and clean carefully, to ensure there is no carbon build up on the valve or the stem, so it seals properly when closed. They are very problematical and the best fix is to make or buy a blanking plate.

I doubt it though, a lot of oil unfortunately suggests a failed oil control ring on cylinder 2, a big job to strip down and replace, and it may bring up other problems due to a poor maintenance record, such as worn bearings, worn oil pump, worn camshafts, etc.

First thing, I'd probably change the oil and filter and take it for a good burn up / Italian tune and keep my fingers crossed, but it probably won't work.

How much oil is it using?
