Hi All,

I'm after some advice on the poor starting on my Pug 106 1.5 Diesel. The car has 163,000 miles on it (nicely run in!!) and it has recently developed a cold start issue. When it has been stood overnight it will turn over firing on 1 cylinder and one by one the other 3 will follow suit.... Read more

My 106 1.5d 1999 has same starting symtoms/problems.. After mucking about I discovered problem was air in the fuel system. On my motor I discovered a 2" length of clear fuel line just after the fuel housing. After cleaning the muck off I noticed air bubbles. And just before the prime hand pump, another good length of clear fuel line with again, bubbles. In my case, problem may sit at the connection on the tank pick up (fingers crossed). But its handy to know if you can have a visual on the fuel line. I also have the immobiliser pickup issue but havn't got round to replacing it. Have had car for 10 yesrs with immobilser problem for 9!

Hi to all,

My 306 smokes quite a but when under load.

It's hard to tell what colour it is through the rear window but if ever there is a car behind me with their lights on I can normally drench them in smoke! I think it's black smoke...

Service wise other than coming up for an oil change everything is new, belts, filters, everything!

It started though after a recent cambelt change. The old belt was very slack and the new one (Inc rollers) made a very noticeable difference in performance, a slight one in mpg and the engine even sounds more like a diesel!

it does around mid 40's mpg wise.

It all seems like a very healthy engine but, it smokes so much under load!!

Any ideas? Read more

My wifes Merc has just started cutting out or just will not start. It starts if given a blast of easy start but this is not a solution. It may cut out after 5 minutes or it could run for a week without any trouble. When the problem occurs the clear plastic fuel pipe from the filter to the high pressure valve is just a constant stream of bubbles.I have replaced the filter and seals but the connector which connects the pipe to the filter is a pathetic flimsy plastic clip and only seems to seal if you push on it.At the moment it is held down tight with a couple of cable ties which seem to work ok, but I would appreciate comments from anyone who has or has had the same problem. Here we go again! (see similar threads from Whatdowepayourroadtaxfor

EVERY time any service garage changes the oil filter, the message " anti polution fault" appears when I drive away, the engine management light stays on, the car goes into "slow" mode (max 3000rpm, then later it's allowed full revs but still with fault on), the engine 'runs on' after switch off, and the garage guy says "..just give it a long hard run and it'll be OK..."!... I brought a brand new Santa fe 7 seater at the end of november last year. I do alot of motorway milage and noticed that the cruise control did not work. I took it back to the dealer for repair. They were unable to repair it as they are waiting for a fix from hyundai.

I know of other people that have the same issue and are still waiting. What are my options as having cruise control was part on list of items i wanted? Read more

I am in a similar situation and am at the point of involving a solicitor. I have had a new control unit fitted to the car and it has been back into the Hyundai dealer twice subsequent to this. There is obviously a problem that they cannot rectify and, therefore, must offer a suitable solution.

I will post my progress on this matter, meanwhile I would be interested to hear further from people who have already started legal action.

Hi

When I slow down, my Honda has a tendency to back fire. It doesn't do it all the time though. I have recently had my bike serviced but it still does it. Any ideas?... Read more

I get it started and get into the grass and after a couple minutes when encountering thicker stuff it will bog a bit and backfire through the carb

Hi

Recently when I press the clutch pedal in at standstill I can hear a high-pitched squealing noise. It's not very loud but you can hear it quite clearly, especially if I open the window. It tTends to be worse when the engine is cold, then by the time the engine warms up it gets quieter and sometimes I can't hear it at all.... Read more

Thanks for the advice...and yeah, from what I've read on this site and the mondeo owners site, replacing with a standard flywheel sounds like the best option by far.

On the plus side, if there's a good chance of it being a while before it totally goes, that at least gives me time to sort out the cash!...

Over the last few months I have had worn tyres changed and then sometime after discovered what I thought was a slow puncture. I visited a well known chain of tyre fitting centres who discovered that the tyre sensor itself was leaking. the outer sleeve to the valve core has a rubber washer at its base and this washer was leaking air at a slow rate. It turned out that in fact two of the tyres were leaking air at the same time from around the base of the valve. The fitting centre were good enough to remove the leaking sensors on both wheels and fit ordinary valves as a temp measure and at at no cost!! I returned the car to the garage where it was still under warranty to be told it was not a warranty problem and that I would have to pay to have the washers replaced and the electronic sensors replaced in the wheel. I argued this and the service manager reluctantly agreed to do the work at their expense as a 'gesture of good faith'. He had put the fault at my door saying the garage who fitted the new tyres should have replaced the washer on refitting the wheel, there are no instructions in the handbook about this and it is unlikely that this is the case. I have queried this with tyre fitting centres who have no knowledge of having to refit washers each time a tyre is removed from the rim and in fact there is no need for the tyre fitter to disturb the sensor as was suggested by my dealer. Tyre fitting centres do not carry stocks of washers for these electronic sensors and no one knows if it is a standard part to all manufacturers. I have now had the work done and still have not received any official notification with regard to this problem. Be warned and if you have a tyre removed from the rim check with the fitter that this outer sleeve has not become loose and that the washer is in good condition and not split as in my case. I wonder what will happen the next time I approach my dealer with this problem. Read more
