I like Volkswagen Auto Group cars (Audi, VW, Seat, Skoda) and as such im trying to find something like a TDI Seat Leon or VW Golf.... Read more

If run on short journeys, it will be water vapour from condensation and should diminish as teh engine warms up. If it continues when it is warm (10 mile trip at least) - or gets worse, get professional advice.

I am shocked that so many people are having the same problem with vauxhall vectras suddenly not starting with a dead engine, just a click or a whirring noise.

I have an 2006 2.2 Sri and within weeks of purchasing it would not start. Husband being a mechanic knew it was serious with just the whirring noise like a fan instead of an engine. parked up fine next day dead. obviously the weather and the battery was the obvious signs but it was more serious. Luckily this was still under warranty as Vauxhall charged £300 to link it to the computer, Result the CAM CHAIN, and with hundeds more onto the bill for timing chain, cam chain tensioners, gasket, cylinder block gasket, filter element etc etc AND WITH ONLY 20,000 on the clock.NOT GOOD I expect more miles from this !!... HELP PLEASE??

I have a a corsa as described above and the Engine management light keeps coming on. The car goes into "limp home" mode and doesn't accelarate properly at all. I took it to vauxhall in the first instance who, surprise surprise, diagnosed the problem to be the Engine Control Unit (ECU) after replacing the coil pack and sparks plugs also. I had the ECU replaced and this did not rectify the problem. I then had it re-diagnosed by a different garage as the head gasket which, as the car was blowing white smoke, was understandable. The car no longer blows white smoke but still does not drive correctly and the engine managament light still comes on. I can't take it on the motorway as it just automatically goes into limp home mode. I have since had various other parts replaced and checked :- Engine Loom, Inlet manifold, injectors, crank sensor, fuel filter, fuel pump, fuel tank, airflow meter, throttle body and the throttle pedal. The car is running and running better obviously thanks to all the lovely new parts it has on it but, it is still doing the original problem, just on a less severe scale!?!?... Read more

Hi i have recently had problems with the cooling system whereby after a longish run the temp gauge will jump from normal too high position in the red the computer emits a stop engine temp too high message, the cooling fans are operating after letting the cooling fans stop and i check the coolant there is no loss whatsoever the system is not pressurising at all and the radiator is coldish all over as is the engine block the only hot area is the head wher the sender is located .. I have replaced the sensor and the thermostat and the radiator bled the system as appropriate with no success it just seems there is no circulation, and my thoughts are the water pump what can u suggest,, thanks John Read more

Hi, Did you find out what was the problem ?, I am having the same problem, get the car out in the morning drive a 1/4 of a mile then the temp engine warning keeps buzzing, once its showing one pip on the temp gauge everything is ok, another thing if I leave it parked on a hot day for a couple of hours then start the car the fan come on right away, I am going to try a new thermostat and sensor. Thanks Steve

Failed Latvian equivalent of the MOT today :-(

I'd already installed a new air filter but it failed emissions and has excess black smoke when tested (ie, revved up high when being tested).... Read more

My Vectra seems to always have a flat battery, which I thought I'd cured when I bought a new one a couple of months back. It used to go flat when the car wasn't used for about 2 weeks, but now it's flat the next day. Checked the alternator and it's charging at about 14v. Tested for a drain using my multimeter in series with the battery earth cable, doors locked, waited for the ecu to close down, and got a read of 0.2 on the 10A setting. Am I right in thinking this current draw is too high? I read somewhere to expect 0.05 maximum, otherwise it might be a diode fault in the alternator? Read more

i dont know diddly squat about electrics but re the ac/doctors post i had a bmw 520 that used to drain the battery overnight,,found out that it was the final stage resistor on the heater blower,,and it is possible for it to drain even with the ignition switched off as i think the electrics for it are independent, dont know whether you have same set up on your vectra but worth a shout

Hi I am new to this Forum so apologies for posting straight away.

I have just bought a Focus 1.8 TDCi, 02 plate, with 140k on the clock and a good service history. It had been standing at the dealer's garage for about 6 weeks, unused.... Read more

Hi, thanks a lot for the info.

Sorry I wasn't trying to be sarcastic. I just meant that I as a total amateur/incompetent was pretty unlikely to fix anything successfully. I didn't mean to criticise anyone else....

My Mk6 golf TSi is emitting White smoke from the exhaust when engine is up to temp. Been back to dealers no fault found by plugging in diagnostics, emissions test ok,they told me it was water vapour due to cold air passing over catalytic converter.every time I pull away in traffic I can see smoke and I am worried only done 10k,what to do next as no fluids being lost!
