Now look here you chaps. Over the past week or so I've been looking at second hand cars in the £6000 to £9000 bracket at franchises and well established dealers. When I most politely address the matter of warranty, they all dismiss what we all read in the Telegraph every Saturday, namely that they are legally obliged to guarantee their vehicles for 6 months after the sale. One today in Southport said it was "a load of rubbish" and that they warranted their cars for a month, or "mumf" as he put it. But they might be able to throw in another three months. Maybe. It's more or less the same story everywhere. Everywhere I've been anyway. What in tarnation is going on here? Are they ignorant, lying, or, heaven forbid, actually right?

Back when I had my 2005 S80 with proper Volvo seats (and zero Ford parts AFAIK), I had a loan of a 2008 new S80 with all the Ford input that goes with it.
My impressions were that the seats were different from the older Volvo, still supportive but less squidgy- more Germanic I suppose. Mrs OB liked them better than the old S80. FWIW overall interior quality was just as good on the whole (and less old fashioned), but there were places were the new car felt cheaper, I was particularly surprised by the very tinny sound when closing the boot of the new S80 compared to the made of granite thud of the old car. Not that that really matters of course......
Hi All, first time poster here :)
I've been eyeing a car for the wife to do her travelling in (commuting for work, shopping etc). I've read that the Honda Jazz is front runner when it comes to supermini's and seems an ideal choice for her needs.... Read more
My brother in law had a Jazz from new. It is now a 55 plate with low mileage, and has had a gearbox rebuild under warranty, and now has another failed bearing in the gearbox at 30K miles. So much for invincible Honda engineering !
I recently got my rear disc and pads changed. Sometimes when Im turning a corne and apply the brake pedal slightly a loud kind of squeal comes from the rear. It can also get worse when driving for a while and when operating the brake when driving in a straight line. Any ideas what could be causing this? Read more
No. He only said he unseized it but couldn't guarantee they would stay unseized. He didn't mention if it was the slides, piston or parking brake lever that was seized. I will take back to garage and ask for a check-over

Similar to the post by 'allandy ' posted on Wed 16 Jun 2010 15:45, however, when visiting the dvla, they advised me that they have no records of any issues and got me to fill out an application to have my licence changed from the paper one to the current format. I still however, was giving 3 points when stopped by the officer the night before who advised me that it was revoked in 1999! please could you advise- i would be most grateful. Read more
thanks for your help.
to answer your question, the 2002 FPN was for 3 points and I have asked the same questions since no issues of licence being revoked was mentioned. I have also been stopped a couple of times between then and now, for example break light not working but again no mention of issues of licence.

just trying to find a bus to gatwick from west wales for us going out to see family in the middle east.
First of all, no viable services when we want to travel, so would have to travel 1 day early and get hotel at Gatwick, the returning, 6 hour wait for morning bus then change twice both ways, making it a horrible experience. Coach costs for 2 = £140 + hotel £80 at Gatwick + extra food costs! plus taxi to carmarthen bus station.... Read more
The viability of using a car for the airport run depends on a lot of factors, and particularly on the number of passengers carried in the car.
Exactly! We are travelling to Lisbon from here and No flights from wales unless we want to pay several hundred quid more than easyjet, parking same price, but travel time with flight changes is utterly stupid from cardiff on return journey 17 hours! flights vary between £300 and £1300 EACH from cardiff and are £57 from luton.
hi

Hi,
I'm looking into upgrading my father-in-law's 2004 Toyota Avensis D4D 2.0 Estate with a bluetooth handsfree kit. Is there a genuine plug-in module or an after market kit anyone can recommend and has anybody got any fitting tips?... Read more
One of the Parott systems. If the existing in-car HiFi system has DIN connectors (ir probably does), fitting is a doddle. If not, adaptor "Y" leads are available for most vehicles.
I fitted a Parott 3200LS to the wife's Zafira. Box 'O tricks ziplocked to a mount underneath the glovebox and tapped into the stereo connectors with an adaptor lead. Main lead through dash to head unit, mike run up behind passenger door seal and behind headlining to mirror. The end result feels way more "integrated" than the built-in products in many cars....

Now then, it seems I have failed to discern the niceties of the issue.
The dealer is at liberty to offer whatever WARRANTY he wants. This will vary in cover and length, but I think the minimum is a month....
