Hi, I need some help.

My central Locking only works with the ignition on. It worked fine when I bought the car but after the first day the central locking stopped working. When I lock the car with the ignition still on the central locking works. But if I turn the car off, the central locking will not work and there is a clicking sound by the CD player?... Read more

Lost its permanent live feed by the sounds of it. Most likely a fuse as the relay is clicking from what you described.

hi, my 2006 vectra is making a rumbling type noise which starts at 30mph and then seems to dissappear above 40mph, if i then take my foot off the accelerator and start to slow down (without braking) it reappears between the 30-40 mark, its hard to describe but i can feel it as well as hear it, also occasionally when idling i can hear a swish noise from the engine bay, like, swish...swish...swish...swish...etc, someone told me its a belt?

just to add the car has recently passed its mot.

any ideas greatly appreciated.

p.s are vectras known for loud road noise. Read more

Am looking to replace the OEM Kumho Solus 17 tyres on my car which have been on since new. I have always been a Michelin buyer in the past but have been staggered to see how much these would cost to put on my car (about 85 pounds a tyre) - even though this is par for the course for a premium tyre.

Two questions really and apologies of this is going over old ground. I don't want to skimp on safety but my car is hardly a F1 flyer - it gets me to work and back and the occasional longer trip. Are the premium tyre brands 'really' worth the premium price or are a good mid-range tyre a safet bet?... Read more

''The reason? Aquaplaning, there's enough weight over the front to keep things in check but you need plenty of tread-depth to clear the water from the lightly loaded rear tyres. Most tyre fitters advise you to rotate tyres to even out wear coz that's what you did in the old days - they are putting your life at risk through ill-informed dogma''.

And the light rear end aquaplanes after driving through the channel that has just been cleared of standing water by the front tyres?

Dangerous are those who run their tyres right down to 1.6mm in the best bits wherever they happen to be on the car, might as well remove the tyre and drive on inner tubes for all the wet grip they'll have....

Clutch started to slip and the cause was a blown crank seal. replace it and still get that nasty drip drip, thought might have nicked it when replacing. So replaced it again taking great care. No joy. All breathers are clear, and it has blown again. Any ideas what is causing this build up of preasure in the crank region of the engine. Read more

Hi,

I have a problem with my central locking on a VW Bora on a Y plate (2000). The key no longer works the central locking mechanism from the driver side door. The key turns but does not engage the locking mechanisms (I do not have a remote or a fob) Currently the only way that I can get into the vehicle is by operating the central locking from the boot, the passenger side door works but this only opens/closes the passenger side door.... I have a 2003 ford mondeo 2l tdci it has done 70.000 and now I have a couple of problems the first one is when I rev it up it blows White smoke and 2 when I throttle off there is a noise from the back of the engine and it sounds like a air leak but I can not find it Read more

White smoke could be water from blown head gasket or unburnt diesel, usually injectors playing up but easy tested by a diesel specialist. Noise after throttle off, is it just after a fairly decent rev? Probably just the wastegate on the turbo and not a worry.

I am an autoaid customer, have used them several times for callout and they have been excellent. You do need to pay up front for the service, they then re-imburse you. No problems at all.

OAT antifreeze is not recommended for older engines. It can cause leaks if a engine was not designed for it. FBHVC (Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs) covers it somewhere on their website and so do others

Whether the 440 engine is safe, I could not say. I'd not class a 440 Volvo as an old car myself.
