Now look here you chaps. My pen is poised, I say poised, just above the dotted line on a car. Respected dealer chain, shiny floor, I like them and have used them before.

Car is £9000 and I'm going to finance about £6000. If I use the dealer's finance, I know he makes money on that, fair enough, so what room have I got to bring the sticker price down? Tiny bit? Or loads?

By the way, I notice yet again that Parkers guide is ridiculously out. According to Parkers this car should be 11k.

I used to be an extra on Corrie but got fired. (Not relevant)

My apologies for being soft. Maybe I should just demand £1500 off and beat him into submission.

I found out that they price their cars in odd amounts because the last number indicates how many weeks it's been on the forecourt. This one's been up for 4 weeks, is that a long time?

I know fiestas and stuff get turned over very quickly, but this is a Grand Cherokee.

Thanking you

Have you got something to part ex?

You could just be cheeky. That's worked so far for me when buying a house.

You could get an up-to-date online quote from Glass's for £3.95, print it and show it to the dealer (if it is in your favour). They give five prices, three trade-in (excellent condition, average and below average), dealer retail and private sale.

I was in your position yesterday but decided to keep my existing car and get more excitement by investing the money instead.

Sorry to hi-jack your posting but can anyone say why a 0% finance offer does not affect the price? I have tried refusing such an offer and asking for a discount but have been told that it makes no difference, yet the cost of 0% over 3 years, as offered, must be considerable. A car saleman once told me there was no such things as 0% finance which I took to mean a hidden inflated selling price, but not in this case.

@bintang - The dealer still gets a commission on the 0% finance deal, hence no difference/discount available if you don't take it.

Thanks for that clarification.

In the current climate they should be giving Grand cherokees away!

Seriously, don't think in terms of 'discount', think in terms of bottom line. If the dealer refuses to budge on a fairly priced car, it is still fairly priced.

Give us the exact model, year and mileage and I'll have a look at Glasses.

I've heard of people taking a dealers finance package to secure a better price then using the CCA cooling off period to pay off the loan within 14 days with their own, or cheaper, funds.

Go for the Fiesta, a friend had some problems with his Jeep and it ate a lot of money to rectify. You can get a lot of decent car for £9K, so be warned. Cheers Concrete
