Chrysler Voyager - Voyager 2.5 TD jumpy - peter_mk

When driving our voyager as it gets just around 2000 rpm it starts lurching and jumping, followed by some black smoke exiting the exhaust.

It does this in all gears. It drives fine, then jumps, then again, and can this 4 or 5 times in a row, then stops, and then starts again when accelerating.

Any ideas ?

Have added Redex Diesel treatment to the fuel without any difference on a couple of occasions.

It requires a diagnostic read but I would suspect the MAF ( Mass Air Flow ) sensor is the problem but it could also be an injector problem so fo not throw money at until you have any stored error codes. Regards Peter

Thanks Peter.

We have been away, so I thought I would check the car over as it had been sat.

Started okay. Checked under the bonnet and did notice that there are 2 wires which come up from the main group of wires, which then goes into a black plastic connector, and the 2 wires then go to the 1st injector. One of those wires is frayed, almost split. Would that cause the symptoms we have been seeing, with a losse, almost broken connection ? What are the 2 wires ?

There is little, if any room to strip it back and re-connect them.
