Mazda 6 - headlight problems - balleballe

I was wondering if anyone could possibly help me here.

I set off and realised my left dipped headlight was not working (full beam was fine though)

So as you do, I thought it was a bulb....it wasnt. Then the fuses were checked and they were all fine.

My brother in law (a mechanic but no electrician) told me my 'live' is not working, so as a temporary fix both headlights are now wired from the right headlights 'live'

Firstly - is this even safe?

Secondly - what could the problem possibly be? I have it booked in on friday, but I would like to know all possible scenarios and the rough price if at all possible.

Thankyou

Unless you have a seperate fuse for each headlight they are probably both run fron the same feed, in which case leave it as it is, it will probably be a lot cheaper than having it fixed. It may be a break in the loom or if it has mutiplexed wiring a fault in the ECU.

Is it safe to simply leave it as it is, surely it would be putting too much stress on the system? Perhaps effecting the relay for the right hand side?
