Whiplash, as far as I am aware, is not a real medical term. An eedjit I used to work with who smashed up his Mondeo on the M62 said he had a 'bit of whiplash' due to the accident...how is this possible?! I've no medical expertise but I'll bet there's someone on here who does, who can explain this properly. Read more

I've raised the stupid server message with the developer and the answer comes back that it depends on the browser that you;re using - I'm not an IT expert (I'm a mere human being) and I don't know why that should be.

Google Chrome seems to work without problems for me....

Just some interesting things from the DT: www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/news/8649662/Slow-dri...l

I recall that we had a thread discussing slow drivers and how irritating they are. I greatly dislike it when drivers speed through towns (especially past a school or similar) but I also do get cheesed off by very slow drivers; it can be just as dangerous as driving too quickly (yes you! The chap in the Fiesta today who caused several of us to enter a motorway at 30mph because there was no way round you and you braked as you reached the end of the slip road!!!) Read more

Galileo - yes, and I do the same thing as you if there is a creeper and use the other lane, but in this case I was entering the A74 (M) so it's an A road with 3 lanes like a motorway! Single lane slip road!

My Golf suffers from steering judder at Motorway speeds above 70 mph. (I live in France so its legal) If I take my foot off the accelerator it goes away but the moment I put my put back on the pwer it starts up again.

I have renewd front pads/disks. New tyres. switched back wheels to front. New shock absorbers but its worse than ever. I know the CV joints will need replacing as they crack on full lock. Could this be the problem?. Read more

If there is sufficient movement to allow them to run out of line - yes it could, when you apply power you are taking the slack up.

Well in fairness you dont know what else they use the car for. Might have four kids all with their own instrument and go car booting on a Sunday! Who knows?!

And yes you're right Avant men like that exist, he seemed a total knob to me and the Fiesta wasnt even the best example of one you'd find but it always started. I'd laugh if there was an awkward morning when he had to ask for the keys to the little Ford as the RAC man was towing his Freelander away.

When I was in my 20s the cars to have were amongst others the 205GTi, Golf GTi Mk2, MR-2 Mk1, E30 BMW 3 series plus some more I can't just now remember.

I'm wondering which cars people think are the cult cars of today? Read more

And MG ZR and ZS. The ZS V6 was supposed to be the pick of the bunch.

Hi, Im new to honest John so please forgive me if i sound a bit dizzy!!. I brought a 2004 Vectra 2.0 dti that was in 'limp mode', being told by the seller it was in need of a new Mass Air Flow Meter (MAF), after purchasing one the car was still in 'limp mode'. My local diagnostic center traced the fault back to the fuel pump ECU, but they cannot be 100% sure, the car has had £940 spent on it in the last 28 days by the previous owner, including a new EGR valve and numerouse diagnostic checks, which was throwing out MAF faults, iv been quoted £1200 for a new ECU fitted which is more than i paid for the car!!

Do these ECU repair places guarentee to fix the fault or would it just be a case of "oh well it wasnt the ECU"? and to remove the ECU do i have to remove the pump and if so is it and easy job,(bearing in mind i brought the car for my wife who is due to give birth in 28 days!!) any help would be most appreciated, thanks, Mark. I had heard that, on Vauxhalls, the ECU is too close to the engine block, which shakes it and heats it up so it ends up knackered; this is manifest as a dodgy MAF. Anyone back me up?

My brother in law just had to have the ECU on his Clio replaced - an independent garage said £850 ish for a speedy job (i.e. get the part from Renault and have it back to him in a few days) or £350 if he was prepared to let them send the car away and wait 2 weeks for it. He decided to wait the 2 weeks! The ECU itself is a few hundred quid, but they have to program it to match your car....

I've hardly see a Laguna coupe or Citroen C6. Subarus also spring to mind. The last Legacy was a handsome car but latest isn't going to win any design awards. Ditto the Impressher, well that doesn't impress me. II've only seen 3 new Saab 9-5s. So have wondered if the one I spot is the same one, but just in a different location. Read more

Just remember it's a recently developed CVT - not the bullet-proof autobox of previous Subaru's.

One of the features of my Peugeot 307 is folding mirrors. More of a gimmick but can be useful. However the drivers side mirror doesn't always like to play ball. It first happened about 3 months ago. The drivers side mirror would either not fold at all or if I folded it manually then tried to open it electronically it would move fine but it wouldn't stop until the mirror had moved back so far it couldn't go any further, then click and clunk as the motor tried to push the mirror further. From this I concluded that it was a fault with the system that determines the current position of the mirror.

I took the mirror apart but couldn't find anything wrong so I just gave everything a good clean and a touch of oil. That fixed things beautifully until about a week ago when it started playing the same game again.... Read more

Nah. The window opens when you become confident!

I really can't think of any helpful contributions to the OP. With £8K capital, I would much rather have a £2K car and £6K of cash backing it up, than an £8K car and no capital....
