unthrottled

Took out a rather rare beast today-an old 6 series-with dog leg 5 speed.

Would it live up to expectations?... Read more

I'd quite happily crash sideways into the Pearly Gates in an original 6 series.

2005 2.2dci (136) 55000 miles. I'm a steady driver these days, regularly acheiving high 40's mpg. But when I need a bit of a bit of serious acceleration -- drop down a gear or two, foot hard down on the accelerator and at around 3500 rpm the engine dies. Relax the accelerator pedal briefly then re-apply and it picks up smoothly and goes through 3500 rpm without a problem. On one or two ocassions that this has happened I've noticed a brief cloud of blue smoke behind the car, accompanied by the smell of burning oil. Any ideas anyone?

it could be nothing more than a blocked fuel filter ! or if the smoke is blue and the engine rattles it may be a build up of oil in the intercooler then blowing through the engine under full load.

If the engine is litteraly bowing out at 3500 it may be over boosting and dropping into limp mode....

Morning all, can anyone help?

The heater control in my 98 fiesta keeps mucking about , you put it about half way but the heat just gets hotter.... Read more

Think it must be the valve.

Because one day it stays hot, today it was working fine....

What are people's feelings on the link below? Looks a decent car for the money.

Are they reliable or are their any issues I should be aware of?... Read more

If you can live with the costs it looks good equally I would suggest a BMW 328i but to be honest don't know whether you could get one at this price. No doubt someone else will know.

hi all I have seen a nice 4x4 2000 MITSUBISHI SHOGUN 1.8 PININ GLS GDI BUT the seller as said the following about it: it starts first time and ticks over fine but as soon as you put your foot on the throttle it cuts out, anyone any ideas? I basically want a cheap 4x4 by the winter months for the bad weather and to go to the stables in my nicer, newer car is getting trashed going to the stables everyday. I do not intend to tow with it, I dont really want to spend more than £1k as it really will be a 2nd car. I have also looked at a mid 1990's disco but worried about costs on them Read more

Agree with the Vitara and other Suzuki recommendations, but don't overlook Daihatsu Sportrac or Terios, unlikely to find a Fourtrack in good order people don't sell good ones.

Marlot has a good point that you'll be going to Mitsi dealers for most parts and likely repairs for a Pinin, those will be painful visits....

Whiplash, as far as I am aware, is not a real medical term. An eedjit I used to work with who smashed up his Mondeo on the M62 said he had a 'bit of whiplash' due to the accident...how is this possible?! I've no medical expertise but I'll bet there's someone on here who does, who can explain this properly. Read more

I've raised the stupid server message with the developer and the answer comes back that it depends on the browser that you;re using - I'm not an IT expert (I'm a mere human being) and I don't know why that should be.

Google Chrome seems to work without problems for me....

Just some interesting things from the DT: www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/news/8649662/Slow-dri...l

I recall that we had a thread discussing slow drivers and how irritating they are. I greatly dislike it when drivers speed through towns (especially past a school or similar) but I also do get cheesed off by very slow drivers; it can be just as dangerous as driving too quickly (yes you! The chap in the Fiesta today who caused several of us to enter a motorway at 30mph because there was no way round you and you braked as you reached the end of the slip road!!!) Read more

Galileo - yes, and I do the same thing as you if there is a creeper and use the other lane, but in this case I was entering the A74 (M) so it's an A road with 3 lanes like a motorway! Single lane slip road!

My Golf suffers from steering judder at Motorway speeds above 70 mph. (I live in France so its legal) If I take my foot off the accelerator it goes away but the moment I put my put back on the pwer it starts up again.

I have renewd front pads/disks. New tyres. switched back wheels to front. New shock absorbers but its worse than ever. I know the CV joints will need replacing as they crack on full lock. Could this be the problem?. Read more

If there is sufficient movement to allow them to run out of line - yes it could, when you apply power you are taking the slack up.

Well in fairness you dont know what else they use the car for. Might have four kids all with their own instrument and go car booting on a Sunday! Who knows?!

And yes you're right Avant men like that exist, he seemed a total knob to me and the Fiesta wasnt even the best example of one you'd find but it always started. I'd laugh if there was an awkward morning when he had to ask for the keys to the little Ford as the RAC man was towing his Freelander away.
