Whiplash, as far as I am aware, is not a real medical term. An eedjit I used to work with who smashed up his Mondeo on the M62 said he had a 'bit of whiplash' due to the accident...how is this possible?! I've no medical expertise but I'll bet there's someone on here who does, who can explain this properly.

I recall a soundbite from a medical type on that recent TV docu about the compo culture, in which the chap said quite openly that there is no way of examining a supposed victim and identifying or otherwise their whiplash 'injuries'. It is simply a case of listening to whatever the person says and if they say the right things the doctor essentially has to take their word for it. This explains why whiplash accounts for the vast majority of accident injury claims. Having said that, it is of course entirely possible to suffer a genuine whiplash injury if you are involved in a heavy shunt of some kind, just far less likely if your accident happens at about 6 mph!

It is also well worth pointing out that the insurance industry itself - those same firms who complain endlessly that all these nasty injury claims are costing them all their profits - are totally complicit it the whole sorry scam, as they gladly sell on the details of their customers to the dubious 'claims management' outfits who then encourage people to remember that they were in fact injured despite having felt fine for the past three weeks since the accident. In the same documentary an insurance spokesman cheerily spelled out the fact that, basically, everyone else does it so the insurers feel that they might as well do it too, and make some cash to help recoup the cash that they are ultimately losing through the very same process.....stupid or what? My sympathy for these poor, struggling, multi-million pound organisations grows ever smaller!

Well my mum suffered it once, but she was stationary at a set of lights and another vehicle hit her doing about 30mph. She had to wear a collar, and have x-rays, and she couldn't move her neck at all. I would say that was 'whiplash' but a bit of neck ache does not count! It's too general. It must have a scale...!

I would disregard any injury that is not falsifiable. I'm pretty sure that even a damaged nerve would have an electrical footprint.

Oh, and welcome back Bobbin. Don't even think about sodding off again without telling us!

I am sorry. I half expected to return to an internal server 500 error caused by the swear filter exploding but I'm glad you're all still here.

I think the site is run by a consortium of Renault and Lucas. I hate the the 'internal server 500' error....and the fact that when start a post with a quote, your own post will then wrap onto the same line which means that none of it will be displayed..and the fact that if you reply to a post, you don't know if it will appear after the relevant post, or at the end of the thread. Infuriating. Maybe I need some fourplay?

I've raised the stupid server message with the developer and the answer comes back that it depends on the browser that you;re using - I'm not an IT expert (I'm a mere human being) and I don't know why that should be.

Google Chrome seems to work without problems for me.

Not sure what this has to do with whiplash. I think Bobbin was referring to a different cause of swear filter overload!
