I had our Passat listed as an ebay classified ad for 28 days till it expired. The only interest we had was someone wanting to swap it for a Volvo S40.
I'd initially shunned Autotrader seeing as it costs so much to list nowadays and I'm worried that it will cost me so much with no interest.... Read more
IS THERE A SPECIAL OIL FOR OIL CHANGES OR DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT OIL I SHOULD USE ? Read more
Ford meet the relevant ACEA(and a number of other specs)- they're quoted on the packaging. This is the oil for most Ford engines for non-extended servicing-they have now intrduced a fully-synthetic to meet the requirements of extended servicing.
Hi,
I seem to be loosing water from my radiator coolant bottle.... Read more
Hi Eddie
If there are no obvious leaks check around the coolant filler cap and overflow pipe for signs of dry coolant, it could be that the head gasket is leaking, pressurising the system and blowing the water out. Try the effect od leaving the filler cap loose, this may allow the pressure to escape but it also lowers the boiling point of the water so don't belt it.!
It's my birthday in a few weeks and Mr B has said he will take me on some sort of 'track day'. I had a little google of this and there are so many I have no idea what to go for. Obviously spending £900 for a full day of zipping around in 6 different supercars is a tad out of the price range for us (!) but I wondered if anyone had ever done one of these, whether it's even worth the money, and where might be a good place to go. I had a good time on a Ferrari experience half day. Bit of a swiz as the Ferrari was only one of four cars we were allowed to drive on an airfield track but I suppose it has more marketing clout? Cars were an Impreza 330 bhp rally car, Porsche 911 360 bhp, Ferrari 360 400 bhp and the winner for me Lotus Elise with 120bhp. Good fun and 4 completely different cars. Not a long stint in each but taken out by the instructors, given really useful guidance and let loose for several "laps." On the last lap it was amusing to fly on past the conservatively positioned braking point markers and watch the instructor shift uncomfortably in their seat. Lottery win - Porsche over the Ferrari every day, and an Elise for the weekend.
From a quick google, Superman: Requiem is a low-budget fan-made film - www.indiegogo.com/SupermanRequiem
Not to be confused with the Warner Bros official film - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Man_of_Steel_(film)...
My brother bought a mitsubishi shogun 2005 model 3.2 did, with 82,000 miles, rarely was off road and service history is there, on the kickdown it lets out a whisp of soot, can anyone give me a few pointers, all info would be much appreciated. Read more
Puting Redex in the tank will make absolutely no difference giving it a good thrash will make a minue difference putting a pint of petrol in the tank will clean it out but why bother when it runs ok..
To let you understand he"s a converted petrol head, he"s still a bit iffy about the soot coming out the back, he still think"s there is something wrong! He ask"s is every oil burner driver happy with the soot? I"ve told him if he"s still not happy then buy a long brush and start singing CHIMCHIMINEY CHIMCHIMINEY!
I just went for a little cycle around my neighbourhood, and on the home stretch, I saw 5 BMWs in a row. A 335 (actually a lovely example in a colour I've not seen before), then an 11 plate 740, an early 90s 3 series, a 118d and 520d.
Anyone seen more of the same kind of car in a row than that...?! Read more
Cambridge classics: second to none full stop, of course.
I like the (true) story of the pretentious man who named his house 'Nihil Secundum'. A family moved in next door and called their house 'None'....
Yes, yes I know they have a reputation as being the prefered means of locomotion for bumptious nerds and you look like a dork riding one. But once you stop sn*****ing and think about them-they make a lot of sense.
They blow electric cars out of the water. They massively reduce congestion, road wear, parking problems, and are fully compatible with mass transit. In these aspects, electric cars are no better than conventional ones. Segweys are also more practical than bicycles for urban commuting.... Read more
About 3 years ago my wife and I took a tour of Washington DC on Segways. It was great fun and saved a lot of walking, but I wouldn't see it as a regular means of transport. It's very bulky and very heavy so you couldn't carry it upstairs. When you want to have a break you have to lean it against something or lie it down, and if you turn it off it takes several minutes to start up its gyros and stabilise before you can use it again.
I would say that you do need a helmet, unless you think you don't need a helmet on a pushbike....
I have an old Ford Fiesta thats done 120k, the handbrake had been very poor recently and after some failed attempts to fix it I bit the bullet and both the drums and shoes yesterday.
The handbrake now works great (hurray!) but the brake shoes seem to be touching the drums all the time, even with the handbrake cable fully slack. I was hoping it would loosen up after a bit of driving, instead the drums were getting hot and one of the rear brakes then starts making a clunking noise at low speeds. This stops once the drums have been allowed to cool, only to start again when they get hot again.... Read more
You deffo need to sort your adjusters out, either remove and free them or get new ones, are you sure you have rebuilt the brakes correctly, you also need to check that the cables are not siezing up, disconnect them at the drums then pull your handbrake on then release, the cables should extend back fully without you having to pull them back by hand if they feel tight remove and oil them or replace.
How did Spitfire pilots navigate in the war?
After a violent dog fight with several dives and turns, how did they know where they were to be able to plot a route back to base, given that they had no modern instrumentation?... Read more
My father flew Lancesters along with many brave young men who never came back he was lucky but after the war never flew again,I still have his heated flying boots and gloves these people gave everthing so that many unworthy people could have the freedom they now enjoy.
His navigation was done by a navigator when they became incapicitated he flew low so he could try and get some landmarks he new like the channel ,the white cliffs or Lincoln cathedral in foggy weather is when many crashed and lost there lives.Even more remarkable were the big wings how they were able to fly across europe drop their payload and return back to their base.
It's highish, but not totally unrealistic. The mileage is below average. Interesting that virtually all the advertised Passats were trade sales. Are VW owners too chicken to sell independently?..cluuuck...cluck...cluck.
