Puting Redex in the tank will make absolutely no difference giving it a good thrash will make a minue difference putting a pint of petrol in the tank will clean it out but why bother when it runs ok..

To let you understand he"s a converted petrol head, he"s still a bit iffy about the soot coming out the back, he still think"s there is something wrong! He ask"s is every oil burner driver happy with the soot? I"ve told him if he"s still not happy then buy a long brush and start singing CHIMCHIMINEY CHIMCHIMINEY!

I just went for a little cycle around my neighbourhood, and on the home stretch, I saw 5 BMWs in a row. A 335 (actually a lovely example in a colour I've not seen before), then an 11 plate 740, an early 90s 3 series, a 118d and 520d.

Anyone seen more of the same kind of car in a row than that...?! Read more

Cambridge classics: second to none full stop, of course.

I like the (true) story of the pretentious man who named his house 'Nihil Secundum'. A family moved in next door and called their house 'None'....

Yes, yes I know they have a reputation as being the prefered means of locomotion for bumptious nerds and you look like a dork riding one. But once you stop sn*****ing and think about them-they make a lot of sense.

They blow electric cars out of the water. They massively reduce congestion, road wear, parking problems, and are fully compatible with mass transit. In these aspects, electric cars are no better than conventional ones. Segweys are also more practical than bicycles for urban commuting.... Read more

About 3 years ago my wife and I took a tour of Washington DC on Segways. It was great fun and saved a lot of walking, but I wouldn't see it as a regular means of transport. It's very bulky and very heavy so you couldn't carry it upstairs. When you want to have a break you have to lean it against something or lie it down, and if you turn it off it takes several minutes to start up its gyros and stabilise before you can use it again.

I would say that you do need a helmet, unless you think you don't need a helmet on a pushbike....

I have an old Ford Fiesta thats done 120k, the handbrake had been very poor recently and after some failed attempts to fix it I bit the bullet and both the drums and shoes yesterday.

The handbrake now works great (hurray!) but the brake shoes seem to be touching the drums all the time, even with the handbrake cable fully slack. I was hoping it would loosen up after a bit of driving, instead the drums were getting hot and one of the rear brakes then starts making a clunking noise at low speeds. This stops once the drums have been allowed to cool, only to start again when they get hot again.... Read more

You deffo need to sort your adjusters out, either remove and free them or get new ones, are you sure you have rebuilt the brakes correctly, you also need to check that the cables are not siezing up, disconnect them at the drums then pull your handbrake on then release, the cables should extend back fully without you having to pull them back by hand if they feel tight remove and oil them or replace.

How did Spitfire pilots navigate in the war?

After a violent dog fight with several dives and turns, how did they know where they were to be able to plot a route back to base, given that they had no modern instrumentation?... Read more

My father flew Lancesters along with many brave young men who never came back he was lucky but after the war never flew again,I still have his heated flying boots and gloves these people gave everthing so that many unworthy people could have the freedom they now enjoy.

His navigation was done by a navigator when they became incapicitated he flew low so he could try and get some landmarks he new like the channel ,the white cliffs or Lincoln cathedral in foggy weather is when many crashed and lost there lives.Even more remarkable were the big wings how they were able to fly across europe drop their payload and return back to their base.

I got a crossflow from an xr2 to put in my mk1 fiesta but after taking the head off to inspect it i found a score in the first cylinder, it's about 2 inches down and runs down below the piston, it's probably about 0.3mm deep, will this affect the engine much? will it need reboring? Read more

I've heard of scores like that being filled with, well, filler. Perhaps one of these products advertised as 'chemical metal' would do the job.

It's not as if it has to take the wear of the rings, the metal either side of the score will do that. It's the combustion process, oil and fuel that could destroy it.

Part-Ex price will be determined by how desperate they are for a sale. You'll pay for the convenience of trading in somewhere in the equation. A high part-ex price is probably not a good omen.
