Hi All.
I have just fitted a new clutch to my Punto. I put it all bak together, fitted the gearbox went to start it and it struggled. I could not select gears. Eventually it did start but still the gears were grinding when i went to engage them. I managed to get it into 1st gear and now it is proper stuck in first gear.
I have no idea what i have done wrong. I will remove the Gbox again later and take a look at it but..What are your thoughts on p[otential damage to the Gearbox and what could I have done wrong...I am scratching my head!
BTW...If the clutch plate was not alighned correctly..is it still possible to bolt the gearbox back on flush??..It looks fine just doesn't b***** work as advertised! :-)
Many thanks Read more
Hi Thanks.
I have found the source of the knocking noise. The NS wishbone bush ( rear) has had it. I put a bit of force on the wishbone to reattach the strut..must have knackered it. A nice easy job to do for a change! :-)..This Punto is going to be the finest one on the road by the time I have finished! ...
Heard and read that there is bad/dirty fuel being sold at supermarket garages and causing all sorts of problems, i filled up this week and the engine warning light came on after and stayed on for 2 days. read tanks having to be empied and new fuel filters fitted and on some cars whole fuel systems being bled and flushed any one else had a problem? I am of the opinion that the differences are due to the specific gravity of the fuel not additives, ie the more lighter fractions in the diesel the less dense it will be and the less energy per injected quantity
This is quite correct-and always shows up in tests conducted with blended fuels containing methanol or ethanol. But there is limited leeway in changing the density whilst adhering to specified limits of aromatics, olefins and paraffins and physical properties like pour point, vapour pressure, flash point , T10 and T90 boiling points etc.
Hello - My apologies if this has been done to death, but I seem to remember reading here once that there is a way of identifying whether a V50 has a liquid or solid DPF. (I have searched, but cannot find the thread.) If I have read rightly, the solid ones are for the lifetime of the car and the liquids need maintenance and replacement at 36k and 72k. I guess the solid is therefore preferable. Anybody know the vin code that identifies this? Thanks. Also, whilst I'm here, anything else I should be careful about? Looking to buy a SE D5 Geartronic. Thank you both. I too do fairly little mileage and have considered petrol - the 2.4i V50, but with an automatic transmission, it only gives 20 (urban) to the gallon as opposed to the D5's 30. There doesn't seem to be a big enough difference in price bewteen the two models to justify the drop in mileage.
hi im looking some advice! i own a 06 vauxhall vectra 3.0 v6 diesel (62000 miles). Over the past week i've noticed when accelerating (esp on inclines) the whole car will vibrate badly, seems worse when cold although no real loss of power is evidant.
Recently though even when stationary and at idle the revs will drop and rise and the engine will run rough for a few seconds then goes bck to normal, this has happened on three of four occasions with no other symptoms occuring. Last night the above happened again only maybe more severe and through on a light on the bashboard. (symbol for immodiliser, looks like a car with a spanner in the middle) and a reduction in power was noticable. I tried switching the engine off and back on and it fixed it only for it to happen again later that day.... Read more
also can i add after the salesman promised me he would stop the direct debit first thing this morning as its due to come out any day now, i phone up at 4 oclock to find hes done no such thing.
Between the bank the dealership and the finance company telling me to go to either one of themselves i eventually got it stopped just in time, although my name will be blackmarked if the dealership doesnt pay FOR THEIR CAR by the 11 of this month. Yet again more stress i wouldnt have had if the car had off been properly checked in the first place. ARGH
I've just bought a Berlingo van and I'm curious about the temperature gauge.
All the vehicles I have owned have always had a stable reading of 90 degrees on the temp gauge regardless of load or traffic conditions.... Read more
A vacuum gauge isn't going to work on a diesel since there is virtually no vacuum in the intake manifold!
Compression test is normally a better test....
I am tring to find out how much fuel is in the reserve tank of my 2007 Corsa petrol. I know that the tank capacity is given as 45 litres but I cannot find out the precise capacity of the reserve tank. I have even phoned my local Vaixhall dealer and they said they didnt know.
Hope someone out there knows the answer.... Read more
Well today we evacuated a Corsa 2003, and with 5 litres in it still flashed the petrol light
So when it starts flashing, you still have at least 30 miles...
I am still looking for a car!
I've just seen a Volkswagon Polo 1.4 TDi (twist) advertised at an independent dealer. They have it on for £3850 which includes a min. £1000 px. I have nothing to PX so it looks rather expensive @ £4850.... Read more
FIL has a 54 plate Twist petrol. That is also, I believe, a three cylinder engine. My limited experience is that it's pretty refined and goes well. It seems to do 45 to 50 mpg too so I do wonder about whether what diesel is going to do better.
Super little car though, seems really well built.
I have a 2002 Vauxhall Corsa C with 86,000 miles. This time last year I was warned by the dealer when I collected the MOT certificate for the car that both front CV joints were slightly worn and may need replacing before the next MOT. Last week I took the car to an independent garage for its MOT, and it passed with no mention of the worn joints. However I took the car for its 9th annual service to the same vauxhall dealer, who informed me that both front drive shafts are worn & noisy and would need replacing asap as there would be a safety risk if the driveshafts failed when the car would be driven at speed. At the moment, there is only a slight clicking noise from the front wheels when the car is driven forwards, but when turning corners, I can hear the clunking noises from the wheels. What would need replacing - driveshafts, cv joints or both? And is there a safety element here, if either the driveshafts or the joints failed when the car is driven at speed? Read more
Could just be a little adjustment of the clutch (if possible), sounds like it's not completely clearing, or dragging excessively.
I've noticed a lot of Mondeos from about 55 plate are advertised as SIV, what does it mean? Thanks Read more
Fantastic! Thanks everyone, I'll sleep soundly in my bed tonight.
