Hi can anyone please advise me .
Let me say i know very little to nothing about cars but as my ever reliable K reg Peugeot 205 diesels cambelt went around 10 days ago( taking the engine
with it) i am on the look out for another motor .
I have around 1500 - 2000k to spend and do around 10 - 15k miles a year and have been advised an diesel would be best .
I have been looking at peugeot 205 / 307 and Ford focus size cars but i am having trouble finding an genuine one .
i do not know what it is like in the rest of the country but in Birmingham it seems like every private seller is an dealer and even
the small dealers are buying duds from car auctions looking to make a quick buck.
I boot large enough to hold 3 - 4 guitars would be great ( i do alot of gigging )
Any help would be much appreciated.

After the last two winters I'm looking to buy a cheap 4x4 for the winter period after last years' heavy snow.
Ideally not more than 2L any make but with a reputation for reliability. Seem to be quite a few Land Rover Freelanders around but have heard they aren't too reliable. ... Read more

Hi all - piece of advice being requested: My car insurance on both family cars (Scenic and Megan) is due for renewal on a multi-car policy, me and wife on both cars, with the addition of 18 year old daughter on the Megan. However 1st March 2012 the family Megan will be replaced with company car Clio. Does anyone do a 3 month policy? Are there better options. Current annual costs appear to be £1400 for Megan, £280 for Scenic then take a cancellation fee hit for the Megan of £57. Advice always appreciated. Read more
I had my Honda FR-V (55 plate, around 60k miles, 2.2 diesel) serviced at an independent recently. They told me that they had had problems with replacing the fuel filter and that the car kept stalling. They suggested that I give it a long drive to ensure that the fuel is flushed through the system and that there are no air locks.
The car kept struggled to start, required me to keep squeezing the fuel bulb under the bonnet, and then kept stalling. I did manage to drive it for 40 miles on one day and thought that the problem was solved, but it then reoccured the following day.
I took it to the local official Honda garage and asked them to investigate. They have come back and said that the fuel pump needs to be replaced at a cost of GBP 1,900 (plus three hours of labour at GBP 85 per hour). This seems to be a very high cost to replace a fuel pump! Also, why would the fuel pump have failed, and what could have caused it? Could the independent have caused the problem (not installed the fuel filter correctly and the pump having to work too hard to circulate the fuel?). Could "replacement of fuel pump" be a lazy diagnosis? Is the fuel pump failing a known fault in the Honda diesel system?
Any advice appreciated. Thanks. Read more
I think I'd be seeking a second opinion from my local diesel pump specialist, pumps usually fail from "lack" of filter changes!
Last week I had an MOT carried out on one of my cars. I was surprised to find the certificate is now printed on a plain piece of white paper. I'm concerned this makes a certificate relatively easy to.........................forge. :( Read more

I've had my 07 focus for about 6 months. Have only noticed in the past few months that there is an intermittent fault when braking - sometimes it loses power when braking in a slow traffic (e.g. stop start). Some times the revs will drop and the car will shudder slightly (almost as if the clutch isn't all the way down, when it is), sometimes the revs will drop and the battery light will flash on, and on a few occasions the revs have dropped and engine has completely cut out. Ford garage can't find any faults with it and haven't been able to replicate the fault. I managed to film the battery light flashing on and revs dropping which I showed them as evidence. They still cannot find a fault when there clearly is one. Does anyone know what could be causing this? I have taken it in for testing twice and they still claim there's nothing wrong with it. The brake light switch has 2 functions on your focus brake lights & acts as a safety device in the event of a problem with the accelerator pedal sensor. Thus a faulty or incorrectly adjusted brake pedal switch can &does lead to power loss when depressing brake pedal Hth Regards Mickeybo

Hi,
My car is turning into a nightmare to drive. It's been into a garage twice and had an air leak sorted and had a part replaced (can't remember what it was, but close to the size of a packet of cigerettes and the seal was shot on it).... Read more
