Our diesel Clio recently had its first service after 9 months and 12000 miles. Today, one week and 180 miles later, I was checking the fluid levels for the first time since the service and noticed that the oil was black.
The main dealer where the service was done assures me that this is normal and that in a diesel engine new oil will turn black within a couple of hours.... Read more
I knocked the nearside door mirror on my 2007 Focus2. The adjusting mechanism appears to have jumped, and the mirror will not now adjust from side to side, and the glass is stuck at an angle so that only the side of the car is visible.
I suspect that I could see what has gone wrong if I could remove the coloured plastic trim from the housing. Does anyone know how this is removed? I don't want to use to much brute force witthout knowing what I'm doing!... Read more
I wonder if it may be wise to adjust the mirror regularly to keep the mechanism free - in my case it probably hadn't been moved for about 3 years.
Agreed. Having once several years ago had to revive/replace both motorised adjustment assemblies on an Opel, purely because they'd seized through disuse[1], I now make a point of moving the ones on my cars through their full travel every few months. Never had a problem since....
hi there, i have lost my key card but have 2 spare with the car when i bought it, will these work or will i need to get them programmed? if so how do i do that
thanks Dan Read more
There is only one way to find out Dan - give them each a go at opening the vehicle. But bear in mind that they must have a properly working battery installed before they will work. Programming is a job for a Renault Service Centre/main dealer, which will cost you.... But if partly working, they can be repaired elsewhere.
hi all. i had new discs and pads fitted 18 months ago by local mechanic who ive used for years. i had brake judder. this fixed my judder. he has just done interim service and advised that discs looked worn. theres a groove on one disc. i am a precision engineer by trade and would say is no deeper than 0.1mm deep. on the edge of the disc is a lip no bigger than 0.4mm. so are they still ok or have to be replaced? im no speed freak or heavy braker far fom it. i would have expected longer life than 18 months. i had years from my previous set before the judder issue. any helps guys thanks Read more
Sounds like he's just fishing for work to me.
How worn are your pads ? Does the groove match the size of the pad, so is down to normal wear ?...
>In June 2007 I Purchased a Ford Focus 1.6 Diesel CVT Automatic from Ford Cyprus with a 5 Year Mechanical warranty (see Ford Cyprus/Warranty web site) Now 4 1/2 years and 5700kilometers later, I am experiencing Gear Box bearing noise, and have been told that the bearings are on their way out and it will probably be a new gear box at the cost of £3600.
I approached my local Ford main dealer as to regards a warranty claim and was told no-way Ford don’t do 5 Year Warranties and they referred me to Ford Customer Relations who would look into the matter. Customer Relations came back saying that they could not find any thing on their Data Base relating to a 5 Year Warranty for my car, so therefore couldn’t help. They suggested that this must be a local dealers warranty applicable only to Cyprus, and my redress should be to Ford Cyprus. Somehow I get the impression that they are passing the “buck” and dodging the issue.... Read more
Surely the answer is here -
Your new Ford Focus is covered by a warranty which is provided by the representative who has supplied it to you. ...
I tried the Good Garage guide, but only found results for the north or London.
In the New Year I want to have the timing belt and water pump done.... Read more

Which cars do you think were so ahead of their time when they came out that they flopped at the time but might sell well now?
I nominate the Ford Cougar, came out in 1998 and wasnt popular at all, it didnt sell particularly well although it has built up a cult following. People didnt like the styling which is odd as the Focus adopted the same styling technique and sold by the case load. In fact the Cougar was one of Ford's first cars to sport 'new edge' which was then adopted for the Mondeo and Fiesta a few years later but the Cougar itself died out and was taken out of production in 2002. I would like to share an experience with you to do with drinking and driving.
As you know, some of us have had brushes with the authorities on our way home after an event.
Well I for one have done something about it.
The other night I was out for dinner and a few drinks with some friends.
After having far too much vino and knowing full well I was wasted, I did something I've never done before.
I took a bus home.
I arrived home safely and without incident.
Which was a real surprise - as I have never driven a bus before. Read more
