I had my Audi A6 serviced at a main dealership. At the same time they did a gearbox oil change for me. They returned the car to me and said all the work had been done OK. That evening as I went to drive the car for the first time, the gear selection indicator was flashing solid. I remembered that this was what happened when my gearbox had to be replaced 2 years 3 months earlier. I am now told by the dealership that the gearbox ECU is faulty and needs replacing. It seems to me that the dealership damaged the ECU when they did the gearbox oil change. I have no idea how I can prove if this is the case or not. Any advice please. Read more

I don't know how to find out if they disturbed the connectors or cable harnesses. So far I've been offered a goodwill gesture, but I don't think I should be paying anything as there didn't appear to be anything wrong with the ECU when the car went into them

>>>I think, without being dogmatic, that the Renaultsport creations, and the Clio are pretty reliable.

I agree with you, that's why I said the Fabia would "probably" be more reliable. Renaults don't enjoy a great reputation but the more recent ones seem to be moving in the right direction and even the older ones weren't all bad. I had a Laguna V6 in 1999 for 2 years and 50,000 miles and it didn't miss a beat (spent half its life at petrol stations!) and my son learned to drive 5 years ago in a 1998 1.2 Clio which he kept for 3 years, one CV joint and regular servicing so cheap motoring. I used to find excuses to take it out for a run (was going to say blast but 1.2....) the handling and steering were spot on, much better than the Fabia diesel vRS I had. A Clio 200 for 90% of my driving and some sort of old but trusty estate for the other 10% - wonder if the maths stack up?...

Hi,

I've had a problem with my 306 HDi Meridian '99 (X Reg) cutting out. Having recently changed several sensors Camshaft, air flow and a few others the problems hasn't gone away!... Read more

By cutting out u mean going into limp mode? Does it go fine till 3000rpm, as in accelerates well and then dies or it goes like crap and then dies? :).

To me it sounds like overboost problem. If it is overboost problem the fault lies in electromagnetic valve at the bulkhead, left one with grey connector. What i would try if i were u, i would disconnect the tube leading to turbo from the valve. Rubber thingie, it leads somewhere behind the engine (other tube is leading to brake cylinder). Dont disconnct the connector though. When u disconnect it, take it for a ride. The car should be sluggish but if it doesnt cut out on 3000rps u found ur fault!...

My lease car comes up for replacement in a couple of months. I'm looking at replacements now, but the Renault dealer has told me he has NO chance of getting hold of an automatic for a test drive.

I only have an auto licence, and as I'm short & disabled, I really need to test drive a vehicle, to make sure I can reach/see everything comfortably before I commit to a 3 yr lease... Read more

My car is in at the dealers right now as they are trying to trace the cause of a rubbing noise. It sounds much like a wheel bearing sort of rumble but the bearings seem fine.

The noise happens only above 45 mph and becomes inaudible above 75mph, its much worse under load up hills. Whats puzzling is that it seems much slower than road speed and the dealer is sort of disputing whether its a real problem although hasnt given up.... Read more

Just an update. The dealer thinks the problem is a bearing in the gearbox so they have ordered all the bearings that it could be and will be dropping the box to change whatever they think needs doing. They said they wont know till they crack it open.

Evening all,
Hoping for some help and advice please. My Mum has a Mk2 Ford Ka and the local garage I feel are taking advantage of her.

Basically the problem is if she doesn't drive the car everyday then after leaving it for a few days when she starts it a light comes up on the dashboard, suggesting a fault with the electric power steering. She has had it looked at by the garage she bought it from on about 7 occasions, and only on the last occasion did they track down the fault....apparently it needs a new battery which is not covered by the warranty. Why the battery, the car has never shown any other electric problems, always starts first time, the headlights do not surge when you big a big deman on the electrics and there is no other sign of any electric issues.... Turbo went on car a couple on months ago, i replaced and all was ok. Then the turbo went again and blew the engine. Replaced the engine (only 20,000 on it) and engine management light on in dash. Car in safe mode and will not rev over 3000rpm. Put on machine but no fault codes come up. Read more
