I agree with you, that's why I said the Fabia would "probably" be more reliable. Renaults don't enjoy a great reputation but the more recent ones seem to be moving in the right direction and even the older ones weren't all bad. I had a Laguna V6 in 1999 for 2 years and 50,000 miles and it didn't miss a beat (spent half its life at petrol stations!) and my son learned to drive 5 years ago in a 1998 1.2 Clio which he kept for 3 years, one CV joint and regular servicing so cheap motoring. I used to find excuses to take it out for a run (was going to say blast but 1.2....) the handling and steering were spot on, much better than the Fabia diesel vRS I had. A Clio 200 for 90% of my driving and some sort of old but trusty estate for the other 10% - wonder if the maths stack up?
