We have a consistent Problem with our2002 Matiz we are trying to find what could be causing the problem.
Approximately every 3,000 km the distributor CAP BURNS OUT INSIDE 0R RIGHT THROUGH THE CAP
The first time it burnt a complete hole in the side of the distributor cap and an off white chalk substance was covering all the inside.
The second time it burnt the contacts and the center brush, with chalky coating etc again.
THE THIRD TIME AS OF NOW THE 9TH FEBRUARY 2011 SAME THING AGAIN we are desperate as to know what is causing this as it has our auto electrician who has all the data etc absolutely stumped.
Has any body else had this problem? Read more

you need to check the contact in the centre of cap is contacting rotar arm. It sounds like iether the wrong arm or its bent and is making the spark jump from the centre of the distributor, burning out the cap. I would fit a new cap and put a tiny dob of marker on the centre contact & fit the cap then remove and see if the marker has left its mark on the arm ! i suspect thats where the trouble lies

Last week I went to fill up a hire car at the BP forecourt on the A40 west of Oxford.

Could not get the diesel pump nozzle to go into the filler. Eventually another Mondeo owner came to help and noticed that the nozzle was too small. The diesel hose was fitted with a petrol nozzle! I filled up from another pump and complained to the manager. While I was complaining another customer came over and stated that this same nozzle had broken his Ford diesel filler two weeks earlier. I went into the same garage this morning and still nothing has been done, not even an "out of order" tag on the hose. When I asked to speak to the manager, I was told that he was busy and I would have to wait for 20 min.... Read more

Well done to the OP but I'm guessing that garage is probably only a BP franchaise. Hope you can find and challenge the REAL owner.

My local Billericay BP is pretty shoddily run too and at tip top fuel prices. Five times I went in there and they didn't have any LPG. Oh just run out, the old pumps broken again..the new pump has teething troubles..oh we've just run out (well why not put a freekin note on the pump then genius'). So I gave up on them....

My father in law has had to give up driving due to medical opinion and therefore is forced to sell his Hyundai i20 hatchback (1.4 comfort -petrol -automatic). The selling dealer has bid just less than £5800 for it. It is a 10 reg and just over 8 months old with about 4000 miles on the clock. Bearing in mind that similar aged vehicles are retailing for around £10,000 (approved Hyundai cars) this seems to be a bit low. Or is it a realistic bid??

Being charitable the dealer doesn't want the stock and has therefore bid low. Alternatively he is seeking to take advantage of an elderly man wanting to offload a nearly new car. I am thinking of advising him to go down the auction "sure sell " route and take his chances there.... Read more

Good news.

The car went under the hammer at BCA (reserve of 7000) and realised £8300 -so after charges he will be £2100 better off than the paltry dealer offer....

She was brave. But lucky they didn't turn on her. She didn't foil them, it was the jeweller inside dropping the roller shutters. They did manage to get some "Tom" before they got away.

But if enough of those people who herded over to her after the event had actually intervened, she would not have been in harms way, and they might have sped off with nowt.

I recently lost the ignition key of my car & have been using the red master key. I later read in the drivers handbook that a new key can be programmed via the ignition lock up to 15 times.

Does anybody know if using the master key as an ordinary key for engine start purposes counts as a programming attempt.... Read more

My 1st post here bear with me pls.
I have a BMW e46 330i with a faulty gearbox, I found an ultra low mileage gearbox from an e46 325i. gearbox code is A5s325z-TU for the 330i and A5s325z-TW for the 325i. The same apply to the e39 530i and 525i. My question is can I use the 325i auto gearbox in my 330i? Read more

The fact that you got no response in 4 months suggests that no-one here knows.

Have you tried a BMW forum?

It does seem a common problem with xenon lights. They are just that much brighter that even if the adjustment is the same as a halogen car, you will get flashed. The problem is even worse in SUVs. I think you just have to live with the occasional flash as they are likely to be set correctly since they have now been checked again.

There is usually a simply adjuster that can be altered with a screwdriver from above the light unit, but my suggestion is to live with them as they are for a few months at least....
