If keeping a car on the drive does it need to be taxed and/or insured. My better half reckons law has been changed and it does!
I won't go into the circumstances unless its needed but its likely to be there for a few months and won't need to go on the road during that time. Read more
Hi
This is my first post- lots of 'almost' answers in old threads but not quite what I want.... Read more
I suggest you check all the gear box linkages and the kit under the gaiter. Regards Peter
The V50 1.8 petrol has done 96,000 and it looks like the master cylinder has gone, possibly taking the clutch with it. There's no brakes and you can't get it in gear - it just went last night without any apparent warning - died an a junction near home.
This has happened before, last time was under warranty at 50,000. Its now done 96,000. ... Read more
IIRC the brakes and the hydraulic system for the clutch use the same fluid. If you've lost brake fluid then you'll lose the clutch as well.
Are you sure it isn't the clutch at fault in the first place (maybe the slave cylinder is leaking)?
I've jst had a wasted journey to see a VW on ebay. It's a shame the vendor described car as driving 'spot on' when it doesn't. The vendor knew this. Why can't people just be honest in the description? A few moths ago I saw a car advertised in minute detail. The seller did this because he didn't want to run the risk of negative feedback. Read more
EBay or anywhere else, it has to be first come first serve, at least until they leave a deposit. Years ago I even had somebody leave a deposit and I never saw them again!
Have had a charging cradle professionally installed to charge my HTC desire phone in the car. I'm getting a problem that whenever the phone is charging I get radio interference - take the phone out and crystal clear reception.
I've had the car back to the installer who's taken the power supply from elsewhere but the problem persists. The cradle is wired from the fusebox and the "transformer box" for want of a better word is located behind it.... Read more
It could be that the charger uses a switch mode power supply to reduce voltage to the phone. This might be causing interference across the radio bands when it is active (i.e. charging the phone). Have the installers fitted many of this make of charger?
They could try re-positioning the "transformer box" as you term it....
Hi. We recently asked a franchised dealer to apply 'manufacturer OEM tints' to the rear side and rear window of our car - to keep the sun off our baby and provide some degree of privacy. I wrote to the dealer asking what colour choices there were, but was told 'none - they come in a standard black'.
I proceeded on the understanding that these were manufacturer OEM parts - and the tint applied to the manufacturer's other cars was the right colour.
On collecting the car, I found that it had been taken to a third party tinting company, who had done an ok job, but have applied virtual black-out film - not what we had wanted and much darker than the OEM tints.
On querying this, it transpires that the 3rd party company do offer a range of darknesses. We'd obviously like to get the tints redone at a lighter tone at the dealer's expense.
We paid by credit card - where do we stand and what ways forward would you suggest?
Thanks in advance. Read more
If you specified manufacturer approved tints and they supplied aftermarket then you have a potential case for them to fit the manuacturer approved set.
If you didn't specify but now would like a different colour which you have now discovered available then they probably can charge you for both sets - but you might negotiate a discount.

2008 1800 petrol design with 36000 on the clock is due its first mot. Is it time to get the plugs and air filter done on a majoe service or do I stick with a inter service. Garrages keep saying difefrent things and main dealers are wnating twice the cash Read more
When is the car due for the next service? If soon and the car is running fine wait .After 36000 miles a net set of plugs and a clean airfilter won't do any harm.

Ok, thanks all for the info. BTW I agree with the new legislation. It's a second car that I might hold on to for somebody for 3 or 4 months even though I won't need it myself.
