Hi all,
I have an 06 mondeo 2.2tdci which has slightly low MPG. Have looked at most things and im slightly suspicious of the MAF sensor. Does anyone know what the idle value should be. Reading between different sites, iv come to the conclusion it should be in the region of 7 g/s@800rpm. Sensor shows 2 g/s when engine is not running and 14 g/s @ 835rpm(idle). That brings me to the next problem, the engine idle should be 800 rpm, would a faulty MAF cause this to rise?... Read more
Hi John, Had my 1998 1.9tdi Quattro for 5 weeks now and it's given me nothing but problems!! On driving it home the day I bought it, it went into limp mode and has never really had any power since then. Turbo doesn't come in (Not limp mode) I've changed the Maf (twice) I've changed the N75 valve and cut the bad bits (frayed ends of the vacuum pipes) each time the car runs spot on for a couple of miles and then drops back to what it was before. It never regains any power unless I change something, take a pipe off, remove power from the valves and then put it back again.
The fault codes on the Vag com are the usual ones and when cleared they come back not straight away but after I've driven a couple of miles.

Anyway, Ive just taken it through a car wash (no comments about being idle and doing it myself, cos a big fat bird did something monstrous on my screen on my way home from work. As I pulled out of the car wash the car went like s.o.a.s. (what that bird did to my screen off a spade). It drove perfect all the way home (5 miles) It's still going well (will be till morning I bet). Anyone any ideas??? I lifted the bonnet when I got in,,, no obvious changes, no water behind the plenum, no wet bits on the engine?????
I've ordered some silicone pipe and gonna re-pipe it later in the week, the boost actuator moves fine blah blah blah,,,, really at a loss now. Maybe time for VWA to have a look???? Read more
hi all im after some advice..
I purchased a car in a private sale 16/09/2010. The vehicle was purchased in good faith and at no time did the owner selling the vehicle give me any reason to believe that he did not own the vehicle and assured me that no finance was outstanding on the vehicle.
In addition, in adverts advertising the sale of the vehicle no mention was made of any outstanding finance at the time, in fact it states clearly that there is ‘NO FINANCE’ outstanding on the vehicle. ... Read more
Lucy is absolutely right and good luck fighting it. I have spoken to trading standards about a similar issue before and they recommended a letter to the finance company claiming good title as the first innocent purchaser as Lucy states. I really hope you get this sorted out and in future just so you are aware those text checks don't check finance or mileage. If you use Experian or HPI they check HP and also if there are any mileage entries they show those as well. Good luck.
I took my car into KwikFit for an oil + filter change.
Although 40 quid seemed a bit steep, I noticed that they had done a "mini MOT" on the vehicle and tested the alternator, battery, tyres etc.... Read more

The link must have sheared off near the bottom connection....
Just out of interest this one.
Can cars with foreign number plates legally park on UK roads without displaying a UK tax disc? I understand that there are some rules which allow such cars to maintain tax in country of origin but how can one check the validity of their tax, or is that not something the general public can do (similar to when someone spots a UK car without tax)? The 6 month rule does not stand up to scrutiny firstly who can prove the car has or has not left these shores even for a few hours and secondly because unlike other EU countries there is no personal residents registration for EU citizens and thirdly Switzerland is not in the EU and should have been dealt with by the police.
Hi,
Sorry, new here and not very well up on car maintenance issues.... Read more
Connect a voltmeter across the battery with the engine running, if the alternator is OK it should read 14 volts or just over. If the battery is being discharged by something overnight you can check by disconnecting it when you come home and see it it starts the next morning, if not, its the battery. Check the voltage before you reconnect in the morning, it should be at least 12 volts, if not - battery

Hi there
I'm from BBC1's Inside Out London, and we're making a feature looking at the damage potholes can cause to vehicles. Have you sought compensation from your local council for damage caused?... Read more
TedCrilly. I believe the reason you're not troubled by the potholes is the assistance you clearly receive from the wings on your back and the halo round your head. The wings are helping you rise above the earthly hazards that I and everyone I know are afflicted by. You're advanced abilities set you aside from mere earthbound mortals. There is absolutely no point in attempting sensible, constructive dialogue with someone as self righteous as your goodself, i.e. those points made above regarding standing water disguising six inch deep depressions - and the sheer impracticability of being unable to realistically drive a motor vehicle in such a manner and disposition, at all times, in all circumstances, and be able to detect and avoid every defect irrespective of every prevailing and constantly varying situation faced by, as I said earlier, mere simple humans.
By the way, I retain the aforementioned failings in my ability to avoid every pothole I encounter despite 43 years driving experience, and goodness knows how I passed my advanced driving tests (including passes at first grade in addition to IAM passes) plus respective refresher tests, and a Heavy Goods Licence and motorcycle licence and twenty something years of blue light driving emergency service experience. I really must try harder. I'll use you as my guiding light and saviour and example - you're clearly a very special guy
Incidentally, your spelling needs work.
After receiving warning from We Buy Any car that my car was on it's last legs I went and put down a deposit by cheque on a second hand car at a dealers on Saturday. However after a sleepless night last night I've asked the dealer this morning to "hold fire" for a couple of hours as I've since a very similar model cheaper elsewhere.
If I decide not to buy the original car is it likely I will lose that deposit as the dealer has said that it's gone for a service and MOT this morning. So despite the fact that I've phoned him at 10am - would I be likely to lose deposit and even possibly incur further costs? Read more
Hi CK, Very Likely, is the answer.
Without knowing exactly what the paperwork says it is likely that you have entered into a contract with the seller to buy the car....
