Nissan Micra K11 2001 - Broken drop link: 40 quid quote - mikem004

I took my car into KwikFit for an oil + filter change.

Although 40 quid seemed a bit steep, I noticed that they had done a "mini MOT" on the vehicle and tested the alternator, battery, tyres etc.

They noticed a defective rear brake light.

They also noticed a broken drop link and quoted 39.95 to fix this.

* Is this a good price?

* Is it unsafe to drive around with a broken drop link?

* I suppose this was caused by a pot hole.

Doesn't sound to bad, it would be cheaper if you fitted it yourself, they are between £15 - 20.00 on ebay. The drop link connects the anti roll bar to the suspension, they dont usually break, just wear, which makes them rattle, if its broken it will allow the car to lean over on bends.

My car drives OK, even in bends (not that I thrash it!).
The only thing I have noticed is a squeaking noise.

If you don't drive hard you will probably not notice much difference but it will fail the MOT.

Ask them to show you the broken drop link and then you can see whether it is "broken" or just a bit loose. £40 doesn't seem unreasonable for someone else to fix it when the alternative is crawling around on the floor struggling to do it yourself.

The drop link is broken. The bottom nut is missing completely and the link is therefore not attached at the bottom.

The link must have sheared off near the bottom connection.
