Bought a 2004 ford foucus about 3/4 weeks ago from local garage, looked to be in great condition with no rust, anyway went to wash it today on and noticed loads of rust on back cills and around front cills, on closer inspection i notice that the paint is peeling and coming off, obviously they have sprayed straight over the rust to hide this, is there anything i can do? The rust is really bad.

My local mechanic has used Castrol Magnetec 10/40 instead of 05/30 for my last oil change, could this be a problem
Your mechanic should have used Magnatec 5W-30. This is the recommended oil for Fords. I have heard of problems using other grades.
Tell your mechanic to change the oil to one with the correct specs.
IMO this is exactly what garages do, they use what they have in the barrel in the corner. It doesn't matter whether it is a Ford, VW or Ferrari, the semi-sync 10W-40 is suitable for all, they say!
Can anyone recommend one please? It should have easy access, good headroom and be easy to operate. It is for local morotring and can be manual or automatic. Very cheap, comfy cruiser though. BMW sourced diesel engine...
...there's more to cheap motoring than mpg and £35 tax disks. The cheapest deals are always to be found in unpopular cars. Around town, it would be a pain, but for someone, it might make a good car....

Hi There!
I have a T reg mondeo and have been having some trouble with the vcentral locking. I asked recently for advice about a fullsize mpv to carry the kids & dogs around. We have decided to take a different approach and take a shortterm option of compact mpv as we never travel with the kids & the dogs all at the same time, otherwise we would need a proper minibus. I'm currently driving an FRV which is wonderful but i need the extra seat, plus i'm sick of the kids riding upfront with me. I drove a 1.8 Manual c4 yesterday & it drove very nicely, well weighted steering, comfortable ride, it didnt crash through potholes like my Sports FRV and was generally impressed. So the question is? if i stay away from the Auto box, i can get a 5speed manual vtr+ with 15000 miles for £8k. Does it look a good option for everyday running around with the family onboard. Its going to be used as a loadlugger and will take a bit of a hammering occasionally but will cover hardly any mileage, hence the petrol option.
Thoughts please everyone... Read more

I think it is completely stupid to blur the number plates
If you are really interested in buying that car, you will need to ask for the reg. mark to do your HPI check. Blurring does not make it any harder for criminals, it just further the suspicion that the car being sold is cloned....

The reason for my comment on TS is that some people here seem to have a bizarre idea of what they are and what they do like they are some sort of knight in shining armour who will solve any problem with a car.
They can't and won't. Firstly, used cars are a long way down their list of things they do and in most departments all they are really doing at the moment is wondering which of them is about to be made redundant. They are normally very under staffed.
However, the most important thing is what they can do. They can only do anything if an offence has been committed. That basically means selling a dangerous, clocked or otherwise illegal car. Im such circumstances they can do and take action.
In the case of a dispute between buyer and seller that is a civil matter between the two. TS will sometimes advise but they are wary to do so because they do not want liability on losing a case (i.e. TS say - go on sue, you have a good case, customer sues, loses, ends up with £30000 legal bill and then sues TS for giving wrong advice....). Their usual response is to outline the procedure for making a complaint but it usually amounts to "write a letter".
When it comes down to it, should it get legal, the customer is on their own and it is down to them to do the work, take the risk of losing and pay the costs. TS will do little or nothing as it is a matter between two independent parties.
