Hi all, bit of a long one
Since buying it in October I've noticed some peculiar behaviour from the wipers on my 306. The intermittent setting didn't seem to work, instead, it would do about 7 wipes at normal speed (without the few seconds gap it should have), stop at a random point on the screen for a few seconds, then start again for a couple more wipes before parking again in a random spot. So on and so on.
The top "fast wipe" setting also did this, except the blades moved at a faster rate. As the wipers worked ok on the normal, constant setting, and for the single wipe which is usually sufficient in light showers, I didn't bother too much.
Then today, in torrential rain and gail force winds, in the dark on the motorway, at rush hour, they stopped working completely. Terrifying.
I pulled in, and after a few minutes the fast wipe setting started to work, and the normal setting begun working a few minutes later. The intermittent and fast settings are still cutting out every few wipes as they have done for months.
When they do go on intermittent and do their peciuliar stopping trick, the wiper stalk makes the same clicking noise it does when I select a setting manually, and does again when they come back on of their own accord a few seconds later. It really does seem as if they've a mind of their own.
In the cold snap I did have some trouble with the wipers not operating until the car was warmed up a bit, but that hasn't happened for ages. I'm not sure if the problems are related.
I'm assuming this is loose connection, faulty sensor, or a Peugeot electrical Gremlin of sorts, any ideas? Read more

Presumably your car is out of warranty. If it has been serviced to schedule by a Citroen dealer you may get some goodwill contribution. If no warranty and no goodwill on offer then you are short of options. If you are in the AA or RAC you can explain to them your problem and they may offer an engineer to examine the car and the repairs and be able to ascertain the exact problem. If you are not with AA or RAC you can still hire them or an independant engineer to examine and report but that will cost you up front. You also need the old pump so it can be examined too. It may help to explain your concerns to the Service Manager at the dealership. Make an appointment to see him and explain calmly what your concerns are, at the very least he may offer you some discount to dull the pain. Unfortunately cars parts do fail and sometimes you just have to bite the bullet. At least the repairs will have a warranty for at least a year. Best of luck. Concrete
My wife has a Fiat Selecta which suffers from an occasional loss of transmission power when it has come to a halt. When she tries to move away the engine revs but their is no drive. The only way she appears to be able to resolve the problem is to put the transmission in Park, switch off the ignition and then restart the engine when the car moves away in the normal manner. Can anyone suggest the cause and a solution to this problem? Read more
Sorry can't help, but perhaps post your query on a Fiat forum where there are more likely to be Fiat experts. Suggest you include model (assume Punto), year and mileage details as well.

A Google search indicates that the next BMW 3 Series will be launched in 2012.
From what I've read the cars will have new 3 and 4 cylinder petrol and diesel engines replacing the current 4's and 6's, with a hybrid option of some sort. I think they will still be rear-wheel-drive, unlike the next 1 Series, which is expected to be front-wheel-drive.
I have a Toyota Grand Hiace campervan 2002, i need to replace the top bush on the L/H shock, i've tried the original bush but they don't fit, so they must have had replacements fitted, the ones on now are CHO - CO72V1R, can't source new bushes, it means new shocks otherwise. Can anyone help? Read more
My mother needs an economic replacement for Mazda 323f (2002) we currently own. Mpg and maintenance costs are above any other factors, like comfort and style. Roughly, the current budget is sufficient for vehicles from 2002-2005.

I have a newish Isuzu Rodeo Denver Max 2.5 TD. There are several after market products including one from Prodrive that claim to boost power, performance and economy. Is there any truth in this and is it worth fitting one? Read more
