Hello all if any of you on here have a 406 with a speedo not working this might help you.
My speedo would sometimes work but not until i hit about 50 mph (very anoying in a 30 zone) so i looked into it had diagnostics done on it and it came back with speedo drive fault. I have had the speedo out to fit new bulbs and discoverd i had no speedo cable on the speedo, so speedo drive fault did not make sence to me. so i trawled the interweb and discoverd people writing about a speedo interface box behind the glove box,somthing that not all 406's have.... there are lots of components on it real close together too small to put in a solering iron and would take forever if you are not skilled with a soldering iron like myself.I cant really give a better reply I didnt even know if it would work ,but it did happy days.

I lease a car and I had a car fire back in November the insurance company said the car was a total loss and would not pay compensation, as their argument was that the car was in the leasing companies name not mine therefore the leasing company was negligent.
The leasing company has sent me a default letter saying that I should pay the outstanding debt on the car, could anyone let me know where I stand on this as the car was leased and I never owned the car in the first place.... Read more
I think it may be a failure to take out GAP insurance rather than the headline policy but the OP needs to be clearer as to what happened.

i bumped a parked car in a shopping centre car park.i had a look but couldnt see any damage to other car but was dark and lighting wasnt very good.i couldnt leave a note as i had no pen or paper on me and as the car was parked there was no one to give detials to.i waited 15 minutes before deciding to go home.on my way home i thought i had done wrong so reported as an accident to the police and filled in a form.was looking at prevoius threads and see another poster has had similar experience.my concern is can i still get a notice of intended prosecution for failing to stop or for driving with due care

My beloved little Polo has given up the ghost after 6 years of faithful service. Something has happened to the gear box and I cannot put it into gear or drive it. Coupled with the body damage to the rear ( when I reversed into a bollard the day I lost my job) i suspect there is little point in paying to solve the gear problem given the car is prob only worth approx £300. I would like to get rid of the car either selling as seen or to a scrap dealers.... Read more

Basically a girl reversed into my car (1994 Mazda MX-5) in the carpark of my local shopping centre a few weeks ago. Unfortunately she had a towbar on her car which broke my rear bumper and light. She chose to let the insurance companies sort this out so I rang AA (my insurance company) and Lindsay Ford collected my car on Monday last week to be repaired. I still had not heard anything about the repairs, so I contacted them yesterday. If the accident is not your fault then you are entitled to recoup the value of the car. You cannot force them to repair it but it is not up to them to dictate what the value of the car is nor state that you cannot have your own estimate or argue the value.
In respect of being third party fire and theft, that makes no difference whatsoever if there is clear fault. You recover the full value of the vehicle and are entitled to a replacement car while yours is off the road until they settle the claim.

I have an 07 Diesel with 65k on the clock which up to now has proved very comfortable and reliable. However since mid December I have had issues with the ETC light coming on/reduction in power/and threatening to stall at slow speed. If I stop switch off and restart it clears but then returns some time later. The car has been into an HJ approved Bosch member garage who have interogated the onboard computer which reported that the throttle pedal faulty. This has been replaced and yet I am still having the same issues. Has anybody else had experience of this issue - I understand the same engine is used in the current Mercedes ML range. The windscreen washers have stopped working and I need a new pump. It's on a 53 plate and I'm told there are two pumps - one has a square connector and one has slightly rounded edges to the square connector. Can anyone help me? Which one is the correct one for my car? I'm not very handy and the local garage say they need to take the pump off to find out which one I need - so are trying to sell me a new pump - and I want to fit a tested 2nd hand one Read more
The only way to find out which one is fitted is to take a look at the pump in the base of the wash bottle.It is situated behind the o/s bumper area.Don,t waste your time with a s/hand unit.Get an aftermarket type for around £20.A genuine Ford pump is nearer £50.hth
