On a short local drive recently my oil pressure warning light came on. Within less than a minute there was a pop and a lot of white smoke and no more engine. The oil was checked regularly with no issues. It had done just under 60,000 miles. It's an arval lease car. I missed the last service by 6000 miles due to my work schedule and Mazda are charging me £8000 for the repair as I have invalidated the warrantee. Is this acceptable? If there is a common engine fault should I have to pay as I thought the vehicle should be fit for purpose? It's not as if the car was overdue a service just late on two of the four it's had. I have not been told by the garage that my warrantee is screwed by late services until the engine blew. I have had no service type lights come on the dash to say a service is overdue. Do I have a leg to stand on?
Hope someone can help! Read more
Whilst (like the rest of the posters) I have absolutely no sympathy with the OP given his "couldn't care less" attitude, presumably because the car wasn't his, I'm of the opinion that as the car is still inside 3 years & 60,000 mile (ie OEM warranty period) PROVIDING the fault was NOT due to a lack of servicing I think Mazda should fund the repair.
I guess that the leasing co haven't pursued it with Mazda (& given their buying power they easily could) as they want the "don't give a toss about their property, of a" driver to do so ..... understandably so!
I've recently got rid of my lovely Volvo V70 D5 SE - a car which was comfortable, quick enough, felt good to drive and had a certain sense of occasion about it.
Why did it have to go? 'cos at 147k miles the gearbox needed a rebuild (dodgy bearing), the suspension needed replacing and the injectors were on the way out. While the car would happily go on to 300k plus miles, the cost of keeping it running was beyond my impoverished means, being out of work. Average MPG was about 38-40... Read more
If you need a petrol-powered estate car with a bit of oomph, try the Skoda Octavia vRS. The petrol engine (very similar to the one in the Golf GTI) is torquey and much more effective at lower revs than a Honda engine.
They've made these for some years now so you should find one within your budget.
The car on a 52 plate has done 40K and has recently passed it's MOT. I have felt a high pitched vibration through the gas pedal one that is suuficient to make my foot uncomfortable whilst driving (vibration white finger effect!). I have just had front pads changed, tracking checked and it is still there when I am driving. It seems to be there on all speeds but with no audible component to the vibration, although my wife says she hears a metallic vibration coming from outside the car on my side. Nothing heard when reving the engine when stationary. In addition, I do not know if related but when I drive up to stop and put gear-shift (auto) into N or P the revs increase to 1500 and then drop to approx 1000. Read more
Hi guys, i thank you in advance.
I want to buy a car and cannot decide which one between these two makes and models would like to hear some of your views.... Read more
How long do you intend to keep it, what sort of driving involved, what annual mileage, etc etc.
If a long term prospect then the Vauxhall wins hands down unless you are likely to go over 100k in 3 years....
Hi All, might be moving on from the SAAB and could do some advice on getting the best p/ex price. Its a 58 plate 260bhp 9-5 HOT Aero, lovely car, but not so popular these days and need to squeeze to get as much as possible. Just wondering what the dealers opening gambit is going to be, just how much more I might be able to get, whether my approach should be that I like the car or don't. I'm looking at cars at dealerships with a screen price between £14K and £15K, how much can I expect to get off that.
Any advice appreciated.... Read more
Totally agree.
I've only sold a couple of cars, and both below the £1,000 mark, but my experience (also helping friends sell) has been that if you put a car on AutoTrader in the middle-to-upper range of what appears to be the average price for that sort of car, then the phone will start ringing the next day and will ring 2-3 times a day until the ad expires.
Hi I recently bought I used mondeo ghia 2.2 tdci with 41k on the clock.
Ive had it for a few weeks. In these cold mornings again it noticed it sometimes takes longer to start then other times. there also appears to be white smoke coming out the exhaust for a few minutes until the engine has warmed up the it runs and seems fine.
Does anyone have any idea of this problem so I have alittle heads up before going into the ford garage

Which do you obey? The road marking, or the sign on the post?
It seems to me that the road between the road marking and the sign is two-way.... Read more
interestingly the rear of those no entry signs have two way street symbols.
So I'd say the last few yards were indeed two way.
Yet another problem ha.
This is only a problem when the engine is cold not warm?
When I start to drive away from a cold start changing for 1st to 2nd and applying the accelerater the car gudders for a few seconds like it is being starved of diesel then its fine after about 2 mins of driving. It doesnt happen in any other gears only in 2nd once you press the accelrater Read more
Hi i am driving a ford focus 2.0 TDCI 2005 and the tubo is making a wistling noise when i accelerate. it also looses power in 1st and 2 gear but from gears 3 to 6 the turbo is boosting and running good. Can anyone please assist me on what the fault my be?
After any advice, my Peugeot 806 HDI 2001 model has developed a fuel gauge fault, whereby the needle will sometimes flit from the correct reading to absolutely full. Then empty. Then jiggering around half full.
A main dealer has checked everything from the instruments back ie: sender etc. No problems there.
So its the instruments themselves they've said, and a problem inside I suspect.
Is there a way an electrical guru could pop the instruments open, and possibly find a simple broken/loose connection? To replace the entire instrument section is over £750.
Thanks! Read more

Excactly-when I was in the business,it was astonishing how many engines "hydrauliced" when driven thro' 1/2" of water at 1 mph!!!
