Hi guys, i thank you in advance.

I want to buy a car and cannot decide which one between these two makes and models would like to hear some of your views.

  • 1) Volkswagen Golf Hatchback 1.4 TSI 122 (ps) manual petrol Match 5dr

  • 2)Vauxhall Astra Hatchback 2.0 CDTi 160 (ps) manual deisal Elite 5dr

And the other is good to drive and will hold far more of its value over the years of your ownership.

Try both, and also try a Ford Focus, which is as good a car as the Golf (although it doesn't hold its value so well) and better than the Astra. Also decide, based on your annual mileage as well as personal preference, whether you want a petrol or diesel engine.

How long do you intend to keep it, what sort of driving involved, what annual mileage, etc etc.

If a long term prospect then the Vauxhall wins hands down unless you are likely to go over 100k in 3 years.

Much depends on the quality and convenience of the dealerships concerned.
